The mission of The Comics Crowd is to curate the crowdfunding campaigns in the Kickstarter Comics category in order to identify and spotlight those projects most likely to yield actual comics and to yield the most high quality comics in terms of story, design, and cover/interior artwork.

Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen is the tale of Cager Dobbin, a local hired gun, and his battle to survive and destroy the monstrous, Apocalyptic Horsemen who emerge, one by one from nowhere, to obliterate his town of Promise.
But why did the Horsemen target his town? Why did they hunt him and his circle to near annihilation? What unseen master unleashes them on the world? And what arcane power do they wield so destructively?
Over the 264 pages of story in these three volumes of Last Ride of the 4 Horsemen, Cager embarks on a quest to answer those harrowing questions and, in so doing, must overcome his old frenemy Wilbur Fairless - in many lethal forms - on his mission of vengeance against the celestial forces that ignited the Steampunk Apocalypse.
27 comics-adjacent campaigns launched yesterday — 16 on the main slate, 11 more from the Comics I Like pile — plus one NSFW video game outside the comics count.
$243,690 raised across all 27 comics campaigns on day one ($145,635 of it among non-NSFW comics, $98,055 among NSFW comics), from 3,123 total backers.
The widest gap of the day: Money Shot: DeluXXXe Edition (Vault Comics, with Tim Seeley and Patton Oswalt) opened at 861% funded and $86,092 raised, while Stargazer #1, a debut graphic novel, opened at $0 raised and 0 backers.
debut creators launched their first-ever Kickstarter yesterday (Cute Stuff, He Didn’t Choose You So I Did!, Stargazer #1) — all three opened with 3 or fewer backers.
5 NSFW campaigns on yesterday’s slate, ranked separately below.
LOBA LOCA (Label 619 / Magnetic Press) funded in 35 minutes flat — the fastest funding of the day by a wide margin.
Bad Donut Comics · Horror-Fantasy · 🔞 NSFW
In-character villain narration doing double duty as cover copy and characterization is a neat trick, and Bad Donut’s demon-eats-nightmares premise has more personality in one subtitle than most campaigns manage in three paragraphs. A veteran-owned outfit with eleven prior campaigns behind it, this is a studio that knows how to sell a voice.
$7,327 raised / 140 backers / 146.5% funded
Joseph Oliveira (BRÄO) / AfterLight Comics · Psychological Horror
Two interconnected tales of “tragedy, obsession, and transformation” from a BAFTA-nominated writer, wrapped in an 80-page hardcover exclusive that won’t reach shops or online stores until at least three months after backers get theirs — a real crowdfunding-first play, not a pre-order with extra steps. AfterLight’s back catalog is enormous; this is one of the more polished entries in it.
$5,636 raised / 113 backers / 833.7% funded
Joe Pekar / Space Between Entertainment · Pirate Adventure, Graphic Novel
A 200-page definitive hardcover bundling four issues, a one-shot, three shorts, and a brand-new never-before-published story built specifically for this collection — the kind of value-add that earns a “definitive edition” label instead of just claiming one. Redd is a pirate captain without a ship, which is a promising place to start a story.
$22,829 raised / 344 backers / 330.9% funded
Terry Moore / Abstract Studio · Sci-Fi
Terry Moore revisiting his own catalog one-shot at a time — this is the third of six planned trips back through his Eisner-winning universe — is the kind of long-view campaign strategy that rewards patience over hype. A hadron collider accident and a government agency with opinions about it is classic Moore territory, and it’s in expert hands here.
$31,787 raised / 440 backers / 158.9% funded
Wildfire Ink · Survival Horror / Manga
An Alice in Wonderland riff that explicitly isn’t an adaptation — “the dire aftermath” of one, as the pitch puts it — is a sharper hook than the crowded field of public-domain retellings usually manages. Wildfire Ink is a three-person digital-first label still finding its footing, which is exactly the kind of long shot this section exists for.
$1,590 raised / 18 backers / 79.5% funded
Run & Guillaume Singelin / Label 619 · Action-Comedy Crime, Graphic Novel
Funded in 35 minutes flat — Magnetic Press doesn’t need the boost, but a MFKZ-universe spinoff about a teenager unraveling her outlaw-wrestler father’s secret past earns its spot on craft alone. Singelin’s a genuine industry heavyweight, and it shows on every page of the preview.
$31,018 raised / 425 backers / 413.6% funded
Will Allred · Literary Adventure Crossover
An English professor and a research librarian teaming up against a fiction-made-flesh threat, with Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler dropped into the mix for issue #8 — Allred’s run this lit-crossover conceit for eight issues now, and 1,262 cumulative backers say it works. Currently sitting under half-funded, which is worth a boost.
$2,338 raised / 78 backers / 58.5% funded
Thomas J Campbell · Cosmic Horror / Survival
A “Great Britain overrun by ancient folk horror and cosmic terror” premise that bundles the complete first five-issue arc in one go — Campbell’s been building this award-nominated series steadily, and a full-arc bundle is a good entry point for readers who missed the earlier single-issue campaigns.
$1,206 raised / 40 backers / 25.5% funded
David Metcalfe-Carr · Supernatural Rom-Com
“The continuing story of life, love and falling for the demon in your bathroom mirror” is a pitch line that does all the work by itself. Metcalfe-Carr’s Shrieeek! series has a real fulfillment track record behind it, which counts for something on a campaign this small — about as modest a goal as you’ll see on this platform.
$113 raised / 10 backers / 83.7% funded
Alaire & Toben Racicot · Sci-Fantasy, Graphic Novel
A husband-wife studio explicitly pitching Book Three as a fine jump-on point for new readers is the kind of reader-first framing this section likes to reward. Gods, pirates, and “a vast network of super cute mail-delivering seagulls” — modest ambitions, charming execution.
$1,395 raised / 26 backers / 48.4% funded
Seth Green & Hugh Sterbakov / Top Cow · Superhero Comedy, Graphic Novel
Twenty years on, Green and Sterbakov bringing the original Freshmen cast back for a reunion-set one-shot — written by the original creators, drawn by original series artist Leonard Kirk — is a genuinely well-built nostalgia play rather than a cash-grab reissue. The new 32-page Reunion Special is the actual reason to back this, not the collection wrapped around it.
$17,063 raised / 262 backers / 170.6% funded
The headline trend runs straight through yesterday’s slate: two campaigns fronted by recognizable names — Seth Green and Hugh Sterbakov’s Freshmen anniversary edition (Top Cow) and Tim Seeley and Patton Oswalt’s Money Shot: DeluXXXe Edition (Vault Comics) — combined for over $103,000 in single-day funding. Meanwhile, three debut creators launching their very first Kickstarter opened at $0, $81, and $5 respectively, with 0, 3, and 1 backers. Established-studio distribution and existing audiences did almost all of the day-one work; raw craft quality on the debut side (and there was real craft on display, particularly in He Didn’t Choose You, So I Did!‘s character writing) didn’t move the needle on launch day at all.
That split extends to a broader pattern across the whole slate: the large majority of yesterday’s campaigns were continuations, collections, or anniversary reissues of already-established series — Redd Velvette, Crossover Division #8, the Abyssal Albion bundle, Freedom Scorned, Crown & Anchor Book 3, the Freshmen 20th anniversary, Excavator #4, Chicken Man Vol. 2, Puppet #2, Galette Vol. 6, Sons of Fate’s stated series finale, and Upside Down #3 among them. True #1 debuts from brand-new creators (Stargazer #1, He Didn’t Choose You So I Did!, Cute Stuff) were the exception, not the rule — and they were also, without exception, the lowest-traction campaigns of the day. The platform currently rewards an established backer list far more than it rewards a first outing, whatever the quality of the work.
Two funding numbers were genuinely anomalous rather than just “high” or “low.” LOBA LOCA hit its $7,500 goal in 35 minutes — an established European publisher (Label 619 / Magnetic Press) with a built-in MFKZ-universe audience converting almost instantly. On the opposite end, Stargazer #1 sat at exactly $0 raised and 0 backers as of yesterday’s snapshot — a genuine zero-backer launch, which is rare enough to be notable regardless of the debut-creator pattern around it.
Goal-setting strategy varied wildly and it showed in the percentages: Puppet #2 set a $100 goal and cleared it at 732%; Freedom Scorned set a $135 goal; both read as rescue-funding or momentum-signaling plays rather than real production budgets. On the other end, Barren Vol. 1‘s $3,000 goal and You Picked the Wrong Planet‘s $1,000 goal look like genuine production-cost asks, and both opened well under 25% funded as a result — a reminder that comparing campaigns by percentage-funded alone can be misleading without checking what the goal was actually built to cover.
NSFW content also outperformed its goals disproportionately across the board: all five NSFW campaigns funded or nearly funded on day one, with percentages ranging from 39.5% up to Money Shot’s 861%. Combined with modest goal-setting on several of them (Cute Stuff’s £162, SUGABAT’s $5,000), this reads as a category where existing audiences convert fast and reliably, regardless of campaign size.
Yesterday’s slate was genuinely international — creators based in the US, UK, Canada, and Japan all launched on the same day, spanning San Antonio to Tokyo to Doncaster to North Battleford.

Prior campaigns: Five prior English-edition volumes, all claimed successfully delivered by the creator — consistent with, though not independently line-by-line verified against, available campaign history (see Creators with Unfulfilled Prior Campaigns below)
Galette is a decade-old Japanese yuri anthology magazine, and this campaign brings its sixth English-language volume to international readers, gathering a curated slate of yuri manga and illustration from across the magazine’s contributor pool. The English Edition series has run annually since 2024, positioned this year as the most mature entry yet in an increasingly reliable release cadence. Featured cover work from illustrator Milk Morinaga gives the volume a recognizable anchor for readers new to the magazine.
Opened at 215% funded with 402 backers on day one — the strongest backer count of any non-celebrity campaign in yesterday’s slate, and a clear signal that this fanbase shows up on launch day rather than trickling in.

Prior campaigns: Chicken Man Vol. 1 (delivered; currently sold at retail on Amazon and Gumroad — a good fulfillment signal)
“Chicken Man: Rise of the Bunions” is the second entry in a planned quadrilogy about an absurdly over-the-top superpowered chicken drumstick battling a gang of bread mutants and a poop monster out to vandalize the city. The 190-plus page volume folds in a 15-page bonus comic that creator &rew K actually drew at age nine, based on the same character — a nice bit of full-circle continuity for a series that started as a kid’s doodles. It’s silly on purpose, and leans into that harder than most all-ages action-comedy on the platform.
Modest but healthy day-one traction at $1,421 from just 11 backers — the highest average pledge of any profiled campaign yesterday ($129), suggesting a small but committed audience opting into higher reward tiers.

⚠️ Studio note: this account, “Printing Comics,” is one of at least three related Kickstarter handles (alongside “Divinity Comics” and “Divinity--Comics”) run by the same Chicago-based team.
Detective Rebecca Hartman’s homicide investigation into a string of ritual murders in Ellis Falls, New Jersey — bodies with their jaws torn off, an ancient Sumerian tablet at every scene — ended issue one with her own death and rebirth as a divine instrument of vengeance called the Puppet. Issue two picks up with Rebecca still disoriented by her new existence, guided by a mysterious figure as she takes her first assignment as “Shamash’s instrument of vengeance” against forces preying on the innocent. It’s a confident tonal swing from grounded procedural into outright supernatural horror, and issue two is where that swing has to land.
A $100 goal funded at 732% is one of the more extreme goal-to-raise ratios in yesterday’s slate — worth reading as a modest-goal strategy working exactly as designed rather than as genuine overwhelming demand.

Prior campaigns: Upside Down #2 (no unfulfilled reports found)
Sky pirates, airships, and a hostage negotiation gone sideways drive the third issue of Upside Down, a self-described “Gravpunk” series set in a world where gravity itself flipped in a cataclysm the story calls The Flip. Vukcevic pitches the tone directly: Die Hard and Mission Impossible dropped in a blender with Home Alone grated on top, tossed onto what used to be the ceiling. It’s a genre mashup that knows exactly what it is and isn’t shy about saying so.
Sitting at 80% funded on day one with real momentum to spare before its goal — a near-miss opening that’s well within reach if backing holds steady.

Boone, Ozzie, and Opal face down two bounty hunters and a Judiciary intent on their execution in the fourth issue of Excavator, which brings on a new art team — Carlos Trigo on pencils, Emmanuel Pérez on colors — for this chapter. Arganbright, also known for acting and podcasting work, has built this into a five-campaign-deep series with a steady 145-backer cumulative track record. The art transition is disclosed openly on the campaign page rather than buried, which is worth crediting.
Early-days traction at 24.5% funded — typical for a mid-series issue on day one, when most of a series’ audience is already familiar and tends to pledge later rather than at launch.

Prior campaigns: KREY, the graphic novel (no adverse fulfillment evidence found — see Creators with Unfulfilled Prior Campaigns)
Silverline is bundling several of its mini-series — Cat & Mouse, Divinity, Friar Rush, Teen Beetle, Trumps, and Twilight Grimm — into trade paperbacks after their original distribution plan collapsed alongside Diamond Comics Distribution’s bankruptcy, a business risk the campaign discusses candidly rather than glossing over. It’s less a single story pitch than a publisher-survival pitch: finish what’s already drawn, get it printed, get it to readers who’ve been waiting since before COVID. That kind of transparency about a real industry disruption is unusual to see stated this plainly on a crowdfunding page.
A tiny $200 goal cleared at 173% funded from just 7 backers — this reads as a rescue campaign for already-completed work rather than a speculative pitch, and the goal-setting reflects that.

Prior campaigns: Barren Issues #1 and #2 (no unfulfilled reports found)
Maxson Bernard patrols Miami’s supernatural underworld in this 140-page full-color collection gathering “the complete first era” of Barren into a single volume. Labbé, a working comics and prose writer, is positioning this less as a new pitch than a proper collected edition for a series that’s already been running in single issues. The Miami-noir-meets-supernatural-police setup is a well-worn premise, but a complete first-era collection is a reasonable ask for readers who’ve been catching individual issues piecemeal.
The lowest day-one traction of any profiled campaign — $172 from 5 backers against a comparatively ambitious $3,000 goal — worth watching over the campaign’s full run rather than judging on day one alone.

Prior campaigns: Sons of Fate ORIGINS Deluxe Edition, My Deadly Beloved: A Sons of Fate story, Sons of Fate: LEGACY Deluxe Edition (no unfulfilled reports found)
Deshong bills this as the final chapter of his self-published Sons of Fate series, set in an alternate Japan where the Shogunate’s alliance with “those from the new world” has pushed the nation toward becoming a global power at the cost of its own cultural identity. Kamau, now an outcast and wanted criminal, has to decide whether to face his new reality alone or throw in with those already living outside the Shogunate’s laws. It’s an ambitious closing statement for a series that’s had real trade-press attention (Bleeding Cool, Comics Grinder) over its run.
Only $85 and 2 backers on day one against a modest $500 goal — low traction for what the creator frames as a series finale, though closing chapters of niche self-published series often build slowly rather than launching hot.

Prior campaigns: none — debut creator, first Kickstarter
A rejected confession, an obsessive best friend who overhears it, and a slow-building manipulation dressed up as comfort — this debut yuri manga follows Nene Hatsune’s heartbreak curdling into Mika Hoshino’s increasingly possessive pursuit of her. Nickolas, working under the handle Sakura, is telling this as an original story rather than a fan work, with detailed character writing evident even at the campaign-page level. It’s a first-time creator’s first campaign, complete with the rough edges and earnestness that implies.
$81 raised from 3 backers on day one against a $5,000 goal, with an unusually long 58-day runway — the longest campaign window in yesterday’s slate — giving this debut considerably more time to find its audience than most.

Carroll’s “definitive edition” of his Planet Alkebulan saga collects four prior graphic novels plus an exclusive companion novelette into one 120-page hardcover, pitched explicitly in the tradition of The Savage Sword of Conan and Masters of the Universe by way of The Fifth Element and Avatar. The story predates human civilization on Earth, centering on Alkebulan’s guardians — Quhala, master of the Life Force, and Shabaka, bearer of the Kem Sword — defending creation itself. Carroll, an award-winning filmmaker and self-described pioneer of “Hip Hop horror, sci-fi and fantasy,” has been building this mythology for a while; this is the collected-edition victory lap.
The lowest day-one raise in yesterday’s entire slate — $5 from a single backer against a $1,000 goal — though per this report’s standing policy, low day-one traction is never grounds to shrink or skip a profile.

Prior campaigns: none — debut creator, first Kickstarter
A deranged rabbit’s quest for artistic recognition spirals into escalating violence across 72 hand-drawn pages, made entirely on postcard-sized paper over two years without a fixed script — Cash describes the story evolving alongside the artwork itself. It’s gratuitously gory and openly weird by design, mixing occult symbolism with a scrappy, DIY visual style that reads as genuinely personal rather than shock for its own sake. There’s real interior art on this campaign — shadow-puppet-style panels that back up the hand-drawn premise directly.

Sophie, a shy woman seeking sexual confidence, answers a stranger’s newspaper ad and finds herself in a room of unfamiliar contraptions in this 24-page black-and-white NSFW comic from the creative-writer duo Obsidia and Blayde. The campaign mixes body horror with erotica fairly directly, promising “glorious gore and delicious desires” without much subtlety about what readers are signing up for. It’s the couple’s third Kickstarter together, working at a small scale that suits the specificity of the pitch.
The title’s explicit “RE-LAUNCH” framing implies a previous attempt at this same campaign, but no original listing could be located to confirm what happened to it — worth a neutral flag rather than an assumption either way.

The XXX-Plorers — a crew of scientists funding their space-hopping research by filming pornography with the universe’s strangest creatures — get the full-series treatment here, with this campaign collecting the entire Money Shot run to date across two oversized hardcovers plus exclusive shorts and bonus content. Vault Comics, an established genre publisher, brought on comedian and writer Patton Oswalt alongside series co-creator Tim Seeley, giving the campaign a recognizable name well beyond the comics-collecting audience. The sex-positive premise is played for satire more than titillation, in keeping with the series’ established tone.
The single biggest day-one number in yesterday’s entire slate — $86,092 raised at 861% of goal from 618 backers — driven by a combination of an established publisher, a loyal existing readership, and Oswalt’s name recognition.

Prior campaigns: claimed 32 prior campaigns including O #1, O #1&2, Lethal Desire #1, Ivy at the Beach (no adverse fulfillment findings, though a catalog this large exceeds what web search can fully audit)
Blue Orchid Books’ annual anthology returns with two spicy sci-fi tales from writers Emma James and Suzanne Jones, all illustrated by series regular Gary Parkin, with covers and pinups from an artist credited as Gunbird. The campaign also quietly debuts a new side project, Gunbird’s Fem Factor Four #1, bundled into the same launch. By the creators’ own count, this is their 33rd Kickstarter campaign — a genuinely prolific publishing cadence for a small NSFW press.
542% funded on day one from 71 backers — strong returning-audience performance consistent with an established annual title, though the sheer size of this publisher’s back catalog is the hardest in yesterday’s slate to independently verify end to end.
