AI.

The glassy-skinned, 13-fingered, and undeniably complex addition to our world.

One that — during the dark lizard-brain paranoia of a 3am awakening — might have you convinced that depth is dead, critical thinking is toast, the world is becoming a sinkhole of AI-generated swill, and maybe The Matrix really was a prescient documentary?

Then, the soft light of dawn reappears. You cradle a steaming mug of something highly caffeinated, and your prefrontal cortex comes back online.

Hope for humanity returns.

Until you scroll past yet another hot take declaring that the coaching industry is obsolete, soon to be replaced entirely by AI.

Sigh.

Yes, AI delivers on the dopamine hit of immediacy (with a generous side of pandering).

But when you hunger for EXCELLENCE, it misses the mark.

**Insert B-roll of you, embodying Miranda Priestly levels of disappointment at yet another confidently mediocre effort from Claude.**

Yes, of course, as the models get better, and our collective use of AI works to shape it with more nuance, it improves. Like any assistant you invest time in, train well, and give clear expectations to, it will anticipate your needs with more skill.

And in the right context? AI can be wonderfully useful.

But excellence — the kind that truly changes how you think, make choices, and lead — requires something else entirely. And I can say with complete confidence that AI isn’t it.

Here’s why: If genuine human excellence was a generic, copy-paste formula that could be catalogued and applied with ease, we’d ALL be doing it.

But it’s not generic. It’s nuanced, and completely unique to you. And — here’s the important bit — it’s driven by your individual subconscious landscape.

There’s a very real gap between what you consciously know about yourself, and what your subconscious has to say about the matter. This is true for every human and it’s a feature, not a flaw. Working with the rich potential of this gap is how you invite your authentic, irreplaceable, and wonderfully off-beat human excellence to fully express itself.

The limit with AI is that it’s only built to “see” what you feed it. So it remains as blind to the unseen magic waiting below the surface of your awareness as you are.

It can’t track the nuances of your embodied human expression.

It doesn’t see the way you shift in your chair. Or catch the micro-expression that flashes across your face before you edit and compose yourself. And even if it could — it wouldn’t know what any of it really means to the deepest levels of you, because that info can’t be found in any database.

AI can’t see and center your unique-to-you brilliance as the most powerful resource.

But I do.

Because client-centered coaching works to see you at every level — conscious, subconscious, embodied.

Not just for what you say, but for who you are beneath it.

It listens beyond your words. It prioritizes your whole human self. And it makes room for the strange, brilliant intelligence only you can carry, to step forward and change the effing world.
