A decade ago, I reported for The Guardian on homicides in my hometown of Baltimore, which then had twice the per-capita murder rate of Chicago and more total murders than New York City, with 13 times Baltimore’s population.
As The New York Times reports, homicides have plunged here to the lowest ever recorded at this point in a year, marking the latest in a few years of dramatic declines.
