Okay, this one is different. It’s not really an article to read as much as it is a thing to do. Today I want to give you The Truth Reset™. It’s a tool I developed, I’ve been using it for years, and now it’s out in the world. I made it to interrupt the fantasy loop and bring you back to you.
So wherever you are, find a comfortable place to sit. Take a breath. You don’t need to fix anything right now. You don’t need to figure out your future. You don’t need to force clarity. Your only job is to tell yourself the truth. Because truth heals what fantasy keeps alive. And I don’t just mean the good fantasy — the future-tripping, the worrying, the worst-case-scenario your brain spins when you’re scared, that’s negative fantasy too. This works for all of it.
The reset has five steps. And they spell TRUTH.
Track the activation. You can’t interrupt a loop you don’t see. So the first thing is just awareness. What activated me right now? What just happened? What text didn’t come back? What look did I read into at work? What fear got touched? Most people skip this. They go straight to reacting. But I want you to slow it down and notice where it lives in your body — the tightness in your chest, the pit in your stomach, the racing thoughts, the urge to reach out or to disappear. Just notice it. And then you can say, oh. I see the loop. There it is. And here’s the important part — I am not the loop. I am not this loop. I am the one observing it. It’s a behavior. It’s a pattern. It’s not me.
Regulate the nervous system. When you’re activated, your nervous system goes looking for safety — and the problem is, it usually looks in all the old places that actually hurt you. It reaches for the person who never calms you. It reaches for control, reassurance, certainty. Your brain will literally go back to something bad because it’s familiar over something unknown that’s better for you. So pause. Put your hand on your heart or your stomach, wherever the tightness is. Breathe slow, longer exhale than inhale. And tell your body: I am safe in this moment. This is not forever. This is just now. Because your nervous system isn’t even thinking about the future. It just needs evidence that right now, right here, you’re okay. And without regulation, fear becomes fact. Fear is not fact — but if you don’t regulate it, it will become it.
Uncover the emotional truth. Now we go behind the story. Most of us become experts at the story — this happened and they did that and they should have done this, blah blah blah. But underneath the story is almost always a feeling. So get out the feelings wheel. My son and I use it, all my clients use it, and they hate it, but do it anyway. Am I sad? Rejected? Ashamed? Lonely? Scared? Grieving? Most of us learned to avoid our feelings — society tells us a good life is a happy life, and that’s just not true. That’s not life on life’s terms. Every feeling is valid. You just have to learn how to move through them instead of around them. Because healing happens through feelings. That almost rhymes. Healing happens through feelings. Not avoiding, not analyzing, not controlling. Actually feeling.
Translate reality accurately. This is the hard one. You get to keep the emotion — your feelings are valid. But the story deserves investigation. So I always ask myself: what are the facts? Not my interpretations, not my predictions, not my fears. The facts. What can I actually know for sure? What evidence supports the story I’m telling myself, and what evidence doesn’t? What else could be true? Because fear fills in the blanks with old wounds. A delayed response becomes rejection. Distance becomes abandonment. Silence becomes proof. But reality is usually way more neutral than your nervous system believes. So ask: am I responding to this moment, or an old wound? Am I seeing reality, or my projection?
Heal through aligned action. Last one. The question here is: what action right now honors me? Not what reduces my anxiety. Not what gets a response. Not what forces an outcome. What honors me. And sometimes that looks like speaking up. Sometimes it looks like saying no or setting a boundary. Sometimes it looks like waiting, being patient, letting things unfold. And sometimes it honestly looks like doing nothing at all. Healing action is never about controlling someone else. It’s always about respecting yourself.
And that’s it. That’s the reset.
Here’s what I need you to hear, though. The Truth Reset isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about coming back to who you are. The loop says chase, prove, control, fix, earn. The truth says breathe, feel, see clearly, choose wisely, and trust yourself.
You’re going to have to do this a lot. I did. I did it constantly when I was developing it. You’re rewiring your nervous system, you’re rewiring your brain, and that takes repetition. Healing isn’t a straight line. You will loop again. You’ll forget, you’ll get triggered, you’ll tell yourself a story. And then you’ll remember, and you’ll come back. Again and again and again. Because every return is progress. Every reset is healing.
You are not broken. You are becoming. And if I can get out of this — and believe me, I was a fantasy addict about everything, the euphoric kind and the negative kind — then you can too.
