Hello friend!
I am writing this late at night because I am still dealing with this bullshit depression that has made me forever behind, but this week I saw a few glimpses of light so I’m cautiously optimistic that maybe I’m walking in the right direction, even if it’s on a dark sort of path.
This week’s drawing is not supposed to look like this. It is actually entirely unfinished, which is best explained by the entirely too long text that I wrote around it:
“This drawing is flawed. Undone. I had the best of intentions but a small orange kitten attacked my pen again and again, leaving mangled lines, lopsided circles and bent corners, and it was exasperating until his tiny face demanded that I stop and play and laugh and guard him on my lap as he slept so trustingly his limbs became floppy. And so, as always, every pen line here represents a tiny devotion, but this time the unfinished parts speak too, counting off moments spent instead on love and joy. And isn’t that wonderful too?”
And so here is to you, my friend, and to the things we leave undone…because sometimes you need a reminder that not everything has to be completed in the way that the world expects… and that deadlines and errands and chores and the expectations that we put on ourselves almost always have more wiggle room than we think.
Sending you love and warmth and full permission to avoid doing the laundry and instead spend that time snuggling a pet, reading a book, calling a friend or whatever other lovely thing that gives your heart the energy to heal and grow.
You deserve it.
~me
