My biggest resolution this summer is to not overdo it. What does that mean? Perhaps you can relate- chances are you’ve seen some fun new summer arrivals but maybe you’ve been letting things linger in your cart before you check-out because you’re just not sure what your closet needs. OR you just bought all of it and now you’re like wait, how does this fit into my existing wardrobe? I was doing the same thing so I made us a little step-by-step guide on how to prep your wardrobe before shopping for a new season.

Step 1: a clean-out- you know the drill. Separate piles for selling and donating. Are you wearing it? Do you love it or even like it? Have you even considered reaching for it in the past 6 months? Is it the lesser version of something you really wanted and now you just feel like it’s cheap?

Step 2: clean-up - deal with anything that needs to be steamed, tailored or dry cleaned so you can wear these things when you want to. One of those small things to help your future self.

Step 3: take inventory & look at receipts (literally) - what do you have too much of? what do you want more of? what have you purchased in the past six months that is still sitting in the back of your closet? Also helpful: creating a virtual wardrobe on indyx so you can create looks on your phone and record your outfits.

Step 4: create a moodboard - I don’t think we’re all meant to look like copy-pasted versions of the stylish women on the streets of Copenhagen that live rent-free on our Pinterest feeds (or maybe it’s just mine??), but take note of what’s inspiring you. Maybe it’s a specific color, or you realize you need a new straw bag or a certain type of short is intriguing.

Step 5: Go back to your closet- Now that you have a refreshed frame of reference, what pieces work together in ways you hadn’t considered? You may also find some additional things to throw into your clean-out pile during this time, which is great. It means you’ve narrowed your focus. Fewer options = easier to pull things together.

you know the vibe.

Step 6: Make time to PLAY- Try things on like you’re 3 years old and playing dress-up again. Weird combinations welcome. Turn on a good playlist or your favorite episode of Off-Campus a great show for some positive background noise. And YES, this is easier said than done, especially when you have a limited schedule, but I promise it is well worth the effort. PS- If you need inspiration for playing in your closet please see my friends Hey Mrs. Solomon on Style & Asta on instagram.

Step 7: Make a “no more” list- This isn’t meant to shame, it’s meant to inform. I’ll tell you mine….. white tees, black tanks, black Tibi pants, black sandals, red tees and hoodies. For some reason I own a lot of these things and I don’t want to cause closet confusion with any more versions of them. Useful to keep this list on your phone.

Step 8: Shop!!!! - This is the fun part. Now that you’ve done the work of identifying what you want/need more of and what you’re going to chill the F out on for a sec, chances are you’re gonna shop more thoughtfully and invest in pieces that you’ll really wear and cherish. (refer to your moodboard and ‘no’ list as needed)

Step 9: Style looks with your new finds, wear them, and have fun on your summer adventures!

  • DONNI’s summer collection dropped this week! Still have a few pieces available- I opted for a simple strapless top.

  • SO MUCH LOVE for these Tibi pants last week. I’ve been looking for a good pair of stirrup leggings and didn’t even realize they made some!

  • Did a little blue edit on IG stories this week, shop my picks here.

  • As someone who has been on the hunt for a good pair of casual nylon shorts, I am very jealous of those who were able to get your hands on the Relax Lacrosse x J.CREW collab. I ended up going with a few pairs from here- an easy throw on to keep in your beach bag or when you’re doing outdoor activities with your kids. One thing they do still have in stock is everyone’s favorite raffia tote.

  • Rhode launched their summer drop Tuesday- filled with highlighters and bronzers in beautiful shade and new lip tints!

  • My picks from the further marked down Net sale here and Shopbop hearts here. I couldnt resist this necklace.

thank you for reading. if you enjoyed please tap the heart below and forward to a fellow fashion-lover.

xx, Liz
