Matt Hardy · BBFA | British Basketball Fans Association

The Fan Pulse is a new regular survey designed to listen to, reflect, and represent the views of British basketball supporters. It’s quick to complete, anonymous, and open to everyone — no matter which team you follow or how long you’ve been involved in the game.

The BBFA was created to champion the voices of fans — not to speak over them, or for them, but to amplify them. We don’t pretend to have all the answers. But we do believe fans deserve a stronger presence in conversations about how the sport is run, covered, and supported.

The Fan Pulse helps us do that. It gives us a way to gather real insights on what fans think — not just the loudest opinions on social media, but a broader, more representative picture. That data then informs the way we engage with stakeholders, and helps shape what we say, when we say it, and why.

When we feel the time is right (perhaps monthly, or sooner if news keep unfolding at the rate it is at the moment) we’ll release a short survey looking back at the events, decisions and debates from the past few weeks. It includes:

  • Quick temperature checks on how fans feel about the state of the game

  • Specific questions about current issues (like league changes, governance, or big news stories)

  • A few optional open-text boxes so you can speak your mind in your own words

We’ll then summarise the results in a public-facing report — highlighting key trends, popular viewpoints, and standout quotes from across the fanbase.

Here’s how the BBFA might use Fan Pulse data to guide its public voice:

Fan Pulse Data:
“71% of fans surveyed believe Manchester should have been allowed to compete in the BCL qualifiers.”

BBFA Statement:
“We’re hearing loud and clear that most fans felt the BCL decision was a missed opportunity for British basketball. This reinforces our view that European competition matters — and fans deserve a say in how these decisions are made.”

Fan Pulse Data:
“Only 22% of fans say they understand who controls what in British basketball governance.”

BBFA Statement:
“The system is too complicated. If fans can’t make sense of who’s in charge, how can they hold anyone accountable? One of our next priorities will be producing a simple explainer on how British basketball is structured.”

Fan Pulse Data:
“Top priorities for fans include: more transparency from governing bodies, better media coverage, and support for new teams.”

BBFA Statement:
“This gives us a clear mandate from fans. We’ll focus our next month’s work on these three themes — starting with a public Q&A with a new club founder, and a fan-led wishlist for media coverage improvements.”

To be clear: the BBFA isn’t a protest group or a political body. But that doesn’t mean we stay silent. When a large number of fans feel strongly about something, it’s our job to make that known — clearly, constructively, and with confidence.

The Fan Pulse gives us the tools to do exactly that.

The more people take part, the stronger the fan voice becomes. So if you’re a fan of British basketball — whether you go to every game or follow online — we’d love you to add your voice to the conversation.
