How to trust yourself (and your art)

I very recently launched Madelynn’s Consulting Salon for creatives and artists who are needing guidance on how to translate their work on the world wide web through branding, storytelling, creative direction, etc. Building this offering has given me an opportunity to reflect on my own fifteen-year journey of creating and sharing online. It hasn't always been easy, although from the outside it may look that way. There have been many seasons of uncertainty, reinvention, doubt, and moments of feeling totally exposed in sharing my work. But throughout it all, I’ve learned what it means to persevere.

The reason I’m able to offer this service now isn’t because I have all the answers, it's because I've spent fifteen years trusting and following my curiosity wherever it wanted to go. From YouTube, to filmmaking, to ceramics, to writing, to consulting. Along the way, I've built a deep trust in my own intuition. I've learned to follow the thread that keeps calling.

What I’m really offering people isn’t strategy. It’s momentum.

The Salon is NOT about chasing algorithms or forcing artists into a formula — it’s a softer, more feminine approach to understanding what makes their work unique and helping them communicate that in a way that connects with the right audience.

Getting a second opinion from someone you trust and admire is valuable. Receiving guidance from someone you trust and admire who is also doing the damn thing? GOLD. As Brené Brown would say, they’re in the arena.

There’s no way around it: to create is to be vulnerable.

Scary? Yes.

Worth it? ALWAYS.

Your vulnerability is the price of admission!

It’s funny because you can’t connect the dots forward, only looking back. Do I think the version of me from six months ago could have predicted that I would launch The Salon, make a short film (coming soon), produce a three-day ceramics installation and sale at a contemporary art gallery, and submit to the Sofia Coppola Short Film Award — all within the span of a few months? Probably not.

None of those things came from certainty. They came from movement.

One brave decision created the conditions for the next one. Then the next. Then the next. This is why trusting yourself isn’t about knowing exactly where you’re going, it’s about believing that you will know what to do when you get there. TRUST.

Your art doesn’t need a more confident version of you — It needs the version of you that’s willing to begin exactly where you are.
