The February Roundup

Crazy that we’re already a month into the year… Here’s February’s email consolidation of The Art Locker happenings!

• 2 cosplay figure drawing sessions, 2 community events, and 4 workshops scheduled for February! More info below.

• As always, we are open to Workshop submissions!

These are free to attend events that are hosted in our Parlor Room space!

• Sunday, February 1, 12-6pm. Hosted by @mielzy.png!

• These will be drop in hours in our Parlor Room space for coworking/journaling! We will have some supplies for you to deco your journals, such as washi tapes, stickers, and decorative paper. Free to attend, maybe bring a snack or drink to share!

• You can RSVP on the Partiful to help with a headcount! Please do not come all at once because space is limited 😅 Not putting a cap so people can come and go!

• Wednesday, February 4, 7-9pm. Hosted by @doodle.tea.party!

• Come chat, snack, and play some exquisite corpse in the sketchbooks provided!

• Friday, February 27, 7-9:30pm. Hosted by @vaguely.haunted!

• The idea is to teach people how to use scraps and simple stitching in order to create a collage. V will provide fabric scraps, backing fabric, thread, and needles. No handsewing experience required. V will teach people the basics of putting the work together and how to stitch it together, and then showcase ideas of what the collage can be used for, i.e. patches, an art piece, or made into a bag.

• Saturday, February 28, 4:15-5:15pm. Hosted by @generationillustration!

• Do people keep asking you for a photo at your local convention but they never seem to turn out right? Do you try taking pictures with your cosplay group but fumble it every time? No problem, at this workshop you’ll learn basic-to-intermediate photography techniques while gaining confidence with posing. Bring your chosen characters to life without the awkwardness—We’ll talk lighting, editing, equipment, perspective, plus fem vs masc vs gender ambiguous posing demonstrated live! From the mind of a professional self-portrait photographer and cosplay enthusiast, this workshop has all you need to get an A+ in photography and modeling.

• We’re bringing it back! In this workshop you will learn how to make your own notebook using the coptic stitch technique! Materials will be provided.

Our third art market is happening next week on Sunday, February 8!

• Most vendors will also be giving out artist cards for the first twenty $10+ purchases. These are market exclusives.

We would deeply appreciate it if you could spread the word and encourage people to RSVP! Entry is free as per usual, and masks are required (we will provide them if you forget yours). Also:

• First 100 people to show up who have RSVP’ed will get a cool sticker designed by @amatchaworld!

• We are changing our raffle system so that you can choose between raffle prize packs! Attendees that RSVP will receive 1 free raffle ticket they can put towards a prize pack of their choice. Additional tickets will be $5 each.

FANstage.NYC is honored to take part of The Art Locker’s Fruit Fest market! Calling back to the spirit of the first market, the YAOI/YURI Elections are meant to be a fun way to crown your favorite representative of YAOI and YURI. The candidates and the team hope to provide a memorable afternoon filled with alpha-off’s and self-sacrifice in the name of love.

After some difficult decisions, the FANstage.NYC team has come up with some tough contenders:

• Stepping up to the YAOI stage are Ivan from Alien Stage and Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen. The battle of the strongest yearners begins!

• In a surprising twist, the title of YURI President is between Sua from Alien Stage and Marceline from Adventure Time. Whose stage presence will dominate their passions?

Make sure to come to the market to cast your vote!
