BUILD OUR OWN ROOMS | Episode 7: Legacy vs. Liquidity

You can eat passion fruit. But you can’t eat passion, my dear..

Girl, let me tell you...

I was sitting here looking at my old journals from my corporate days, and I realized something that scared the bejesus out of me.

You can have a bank account that is overflowing, and you can also have a soul that is completely empty. Both can happen at the exact same time.

We have been raised to chase “The Bag.” Secure the bag. Protect the bag.

We were taught that if the money is right and the title is right, then we are “successful.”

But I’m looking around at us, brilliant Black women running departments and building businesses, and I see a lot of us sitting on thrones that feel a lot like cages.

In this episode, we are diagnosing the math. Because sugar, the math ain’t mathing.

We often confuse these two, but in the Architect’s Circle, we know the difference:

• Liquidity (The Blueprint): This is the external stuff. The salary. The title on LinkedIn. The ability to pay for the nice vacation. It’s the house looking good from the street corner. That’s your curb appeal.

• Legacy (The Soul): This is the internal stuff. The joy. The energy. The feeling that you are actually using your genius, not just your labor. It’s whether the person living inside the house is actually happy.

The trap we’ve been handed says: “Focus on the Liquidity first, and the joy will come later.” But sugar, when exactly is “later”?

I see us falling into two specific categories. Which one resonates with your spirit?

1. Trap #1: All Blueprint, No Soul (The Golden Handcuffs)
   You have the respect and the high-paying job. From the outside, you are crushing it. But inside? You are brittle. You are snapping at your kids because you gave all your patience to your boss. You built a fortress of safety, but you locked your soul in the basement. That part.

2. Trap #2: All Soul, No Blueprint (The Starving Artist)
   You leaped into entrepreneurship for freedom. You love the work, and the “Soul” is there. But you didn’t build the “Blueprint.” You didn’t build the systems to get paid properly. Now you’re a CEO doing intern work and stressing about the electric bill every month.

A legacy requires both. Think of a stone archway.

1. One side is the Blueprint (The Strategy, The Money).

2. The other side is the Soul (The Purpose, The Joy).

If you only build one side, the whole thing collapses. You need both pillars standing strong, and the thing that holds them together?

That’s the Keystone.

My dear, YOU are the Keystone.

You have to be the one to say, “I will not build a career that pays me well but kills my spirit,” and “I will not build a passion project that doesn’t respect my value.”

You can’t fix a building if you don’t know where the cracks are. It’s time to stop guessing and start architecting.
