Alex Key · The Agent Native Product

Everyone’s worried about the two-person startup that rebuilds your product in a weekend. Fair enough - building software is cheaper than ever. Features get commoditized fast.

But here’s what nobody can vibe-code in a weekend: making your users genuinely better at their job.

That’s probably the best news you’ll hear all week - and I’ll get to why. First, let me show you a company that nailed this.

Apollo.io figured this out. They sell a sales platform - CRM, prospecting, sequences, dialer. Good product. But that’s not why they hit $100M ARR in 24 months, and it’s not why 76% of their new customers come through word of mouth.

Apollo’s actual mission isn’t “use our CRM.” It’s “become a great salesperson.”

Here’s what that looks like.

Just a few of the things they do: They run a free sales academy with master classes from people like Chris Orlob (who helped scale Gong to $7.2B) - not product tutorials, but courses on how to sell. I sat in on one of their sessions with James O’Sullivan, a former Uber seller, and walked away with more practical sales knowledge than you’ll find in some paid workshops.

Their community of 6,000+ members generates its own events - a customer in Sweden organized a local meetup unprompted. Apollo sent swag.

Their Sales Plays aren’t automation templates. They’re encoded best practices from their top users - the best users’ instincts, made executable by everyone.

Even their onboarding teaches you what good prospecting looks like - by the time you finish setup, your dashboard already shows real leads matched to your profile. Every step produces value.

None of this is the software. All of it is the product.

This is your actual advantage.

If you’re an established B2B software company, here’s what this means for you: the thing that protects you isn’t your feature set.

Your users’ problem is rarely “I need better software.” It’s “I need to be better at my job.” The software isn’t the destination, but one of many vehicles to get there.

Apollo built an entire ecosystem around this - academy, book, community, magazine, sales plays - and it created a flywheel no competitor can touch. Users get better at selling, they succeed, they tell others. No feature comparison will ever touch that.

The edge cases, the patterns you’ve watched play out across thousands of accounts, what separates your best customers from your average ones - that’s your raw material. You’re probably not using it.

Challengers can copy your features. They can’t copy that. That’s what a real moat looks like.
