Story, story? Story.
Once upon a time? Time, time.
……
……
……
Look at you, still reading.
Why? You Dey go nau
Ohh, you really want to know what the story is about, don’t you? Well, there isn’t one, you can go now.
Seriously, there is no story.
….
You’re still here? Interesting.
A complete stranger told you there was no story, and you stayed anyway.
You know what? Maybe i will tell you. After all, i warned you, but you didn’t listen.
After all, the story isn’t missing, maybe the story is even YOU. Are you ready?
You see, i have spent a considerable amount of time observing PEOPLE, and i have come to one conclusion:
You people are absolutely fascinating.
I am not talking about them being intelligent, wise, or even rational, just…. Fascinating.
Because there is no creature on earth more committed to self-inflicted emotional chaos than a human being in love.
Let’s use you as an example, yes, YOU.
At some point in your life, someone broke your heart. Not all those little cracks, or minor scratches oo, nahhh.
I’m talking about the kind of heartbreak that made food lose its taste in your mouth, the one that made the songs you listen to sound like personal attacks, the one that had you staring at the ceiling at 2 a.m. conducting imaginary interviews with yourself.
“What did I do wrong?”
“What were the signs?”
“Why did I ignore the signs?” now, you’re seeing wonders, and the thing with wonders is that, they never end.
I won’t even lie, these are excellent questions, but these are also questions that, remarkably, you would learn absolutely nothing from. Because after all that suffering, after all that crying, and dramatic declarations of independence, what did you do?
You fell in love again.
I know.
I know.
You’re ridiculous, i know.
I mean, someone shattered your heart into decorative confetti and your response was, “Perhaps i should find another person and hand them the remaining pieces.”
My God! Aren’t you absolutely extraordinary?
Crazy thing is that if humans approached anything else this way, civilization would collapse.
Imagine touching a fire and getting burned. Then returning to the same fire and saying, “I have a good feeling about this one.”
Imagine getting bitten by a lion and immediately adopting another lion because this one seems different.
Imagine being robbed and then voluntarily giving your house keys to another stranger because they have kind eyes.
Yet this is exactly how people approach love, and somehow society treats this as normal.
You meet someone.
They smile, laugh at your jokes, text back quickly. Suddenly your brain starts behaving like a conspiracy theorist.
A two-minute conversation becomes evidence, a compliment becomes destiny, a shared interest becomes a sign from the universe. Before long, you’ve built an entire future from absolutely nothing.
You really are amazing don’t you think? Well, not because you are logical, it’s just that you are optimistic to the point of insanity.
You call it hope.
An outside observer might call it something else, but let’s not argue over technicalities.
Do you know what my favorite part is?
The confidence, the unbelievable confidence. You genuinely believe this one will be different.
Not might.
WILL.
The previous person was different too.
And the one before that.
And the one before that.
Yet every new romance arrives wrapped in the same packaging: “This feels special.”
Of course it does.
That’s the trap, you never learn.
If heartbreak came with warning labels, nobody would buy it.
Love survives because it has the marketing skills of a luxury brand.
And you?
You remain its most loyal customers.
Year after year.
Generation after generation.
You would think Humans would eventually hold a meeting, yunno, issue a statement, and maybe gather all the evidence and conclude that this activity carries unacceptable risks.
Instead, every morning millions of people wake up and say, “Yes, I know this could destroy me emotionally, but have you considered that they smiled at me?”
Omo, omooooooooo
Truly incredible, 😭
Yet, i can’t even laugh too hard. You see, hidden beneath all that delusion is something strangely beautiful, at least, to me.
For all your irrationality, recklessness, emotional disasters you willingly walk into, you never completely give up.
You keep believing.
You keep hoping.
You keep trying.
You keep handing people access to the most fragile parts of yourself and somehow convincing yourself that this time things might work out.
That is either the greatest display of courage ever witnessed… or the most sophisticated form of delusion humanity has ever invented.
I’m still undecided, maybe they’re the same thing, or maybe courage is just delusion that survived long enough to earn respect.
Either way, here you are.
Still reading.
Still hoping.
Still believing.
Still willing to risk heartbreak for the possibility of love.
And honestly?
That might be the funniest thing about humans, and the most beautiful.
Thank you for listening to the story.
Not mine (just joking).
Yours.
