This morning, I came upon this note by Linda Caroll about viral AI-generated “personal stories,” and my response to her missive poured straight out of my heart and onto my keyboard in one breath.
My God, yes!
And sadly, that “soulful” AI-generated storytelling works well. It works for clicks. It works to generate engagement. It works!!!
You can recognize AI by just how precisely it pushes our emotional buttons. It tells stories of abused orphans who came out triumphant against all odds. It punches out tales of pregnant wives who had been cheated on by a cruel husband, kicked out of the house—only for a newly discovered rich relative to come out of the bushes and save the day.
They reproduce the emotional dynamic of a soap opera—but very concisely so.
