Liberation Day, But for Who?

What a day to start a Liberation - It is cool cloudy in Washington, where the ruling party is either very high on their own supply of tariffs rhetoric or quaking in their boots waiting for the economy to crash. For Republicans the message is “Trust In Trump,” but only a few can really carry that message. Most of them are getting all sorts of hell at home over Trump’s policies. They deliver the line only on defense. Trump has put the them in a box and the natives are getting restless.

Meanwhile, across the aisle the Democrats are showing signs of life. Cory Booker took an old parliamentary tactic and went viral it, stealing the new cycle with a legitimate theory of the case. Booker made history, dislodging segregationist Strom Thurmond, for giving the longest speech in the Senate ever, but it was a passionate and persuasive argument for the opposition at this moment.

And then enter Susan Crawford, an affable county judge running statewide for the Supreme Court in Wisconsin. She crushed her Republican opponent, in spite of Trump and his pal, Elon Musk, throwing in everything they had. As Musk said, there was nothing less on the line than the fate of western civilization. Pretty high stakes.

The ruling party, locked into unpopular policies, on defense and dreading the news - versus an opposition who’s tasted sweet victory after long months in the wilderness. It’s not what Trump envisioned when he coined the phrase ‘Liberation Day.”and it’s just a couple news cycles, but Liberation Day will be remembered by both sides, at least for the next 18 months.
