Terri Buckner · Panoramic Orange

The J Branch Rail Trail is envisioned as an 11-mile long corridor running from University Station in Orange County through downtown Carrboro to the UNC CoGen plant on Cameron Avenue in Chapel Hill.

The feasibility study, funded primarily with federal funds, is being undertaken by Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization (TWTPO), the towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, Orange County, UNC, and North Carolina Railroad (NCRR). It will investigate how the existing rail line can be used for transportation and recreation if it becomes available sometime in the future.

The Community Workshops will share what is known so far about the “physical conditions (bridges, surfaces, drainage, access points), community interest and concerns, potential costs or funding, and future benefits – health and recreation, economic and business activity, tourism, housing, transportation choices, safety, and environmental and cultural value” and gather community opinions to flesh out the vision.

This is your chance to have a voice in a community changing project. C’mon out to one or more of the three workshops to learn more.
