NUTHATCHES OUT ON A LIMB

Nuthatches are funny, crazy birds. They always seem to be upside down. I think they are the only birds who can run head downward on trees. Mostly, they apparently prefer being upside down. They certainly prefer eating upside down.

KEEP YOUR SUNNY SIDE UP

FOTD – August 21 – Sunnyside Up! We had nearly 10 minutes of rain today. I heard the thunder rolling, and I thought, “Rain maybe?” I have learned through the bitter experience of this long dry summer that all the symptoms of rain don’t necessarily mean rain will actually fall. But there was a second … Continue reading KEEP YOUR SUNNY SIDE UP

FLOWERS OF THE SUN

FOTD – August 21 – Sunflowers I took my sunflowers out to the sun yesterday. I despaired of ever having enough light inside to photograph them. They loved the sun, not to mention the extra water and shower they got while outside.

BEING AGAINST FORCED BUSING DOESN’T MAKE YOU A RACIST – GARRY ARMSTRONG

I was in the middle of what I honestly call the Boston busing fiasco. On center stage, it played as a racial divide between Boston’s white and minority communities. It played well in the media – especially national and international media, where they didn’t understand the local sentiments. The local news stations did a little … Continue reading BEING AGAINST FORCED BUSING DOESN’T MAKE YOU A RACIST…

FLOWERS IN BOXES

FOTD – August 21 – More from the flower boxes It’s too dry to water, so all my watering is of the same five flower boxes and pots on the deck. I want to believe that watering five plants is not going to finish off our water, but as the season rolls on, endlessly sunny, … Continue reading FLOWERS IN BOXES

Weekly Writing Challenge: Iconic — The Woodstove

The woodstove had been in the family a long time. No one really knew how long, but a few generations for sure. It had heated the family home for years. Now the house had real central heating, so the woodstove had been relegated to a corner in the basement for a dozen years or more. … Continue reading Weekly Writing Challenge: Iconic — The Woodstove

BEAUTIFUL

All photos: Garry Armstrong I have often joked that when Garry and I go out with cameras, he stalks me. If I turn around, I am sure Garry and his camera will be there. The other night, Garry asked me if I minded him taking my picture, and I said I don’t, though it can … Continue reading BEAUTIFUL

WHEN DID “TIME” BEGIN?

Fandango’s Provocative Question #178 When did time actually begin? I have a secondary question: are you asking when “keeping time” began or when “dealing with time” began? Long before we had sundials or clocks, time was always part of our world. There was a time to sow crops and to harvest. Everyone recognized when days would … Continue reading WHEN DID “TIME” BEGIN?

SHIPS AT CEE IN MIDWEEK MADNESS

CMMC – Aug ust Pick a Topic from my Photo Cee’s photograph (and isn’t it a honey!): Powered boats from Boston to Gloucester. I have a lot of sailboats too, but somehow this challenge seemed to call for something with an engine.

PEOPLE MOVERS

CBWC: People Movers This is one of the areas where I don’t have as many pictures as others. I’m not even sure why I don’t, but there it is.

RED FLOWERS BACK AGAIN

FOTD – August 18 – Red Flowers Back – Encore Performance They bloomed like crazy all through June, then went dormant through July. But now, they are back — and so are the hummingbirds. We don’t have hummingbird feeders because of the 🐜 problems that come with that sweet stuff — and because the deck is … Continue reading RED FLOWERS BACK AGAIN

READ THIS!

CFFC: Where/What/When We Read When I was in school, I did a lot of my reading in the library. That was true at all grade levels. It just seemed much easier to read somewhere quiet than to read at home. In the summer, I would read at home. I can only recall one or two … Continue reading READ THIS!

A ROSE IS A ROSE, OR IS IT?

FOTD – August 17 – Rose Some roses are definitely rosier than others. Some are romantic, some are exciting, others smell like heaven. So when is a rose not a rose?

WHAT DOES “SEO” MEAN?

Blogging Insights NF #50 “Conversation is King” TODAY’S QUOTE: Conversation is king. Content is just something to talk about. ~ Cory Doctorow So there I was at the start of this post and realized — I don’t know what SEO means. I don’t think I ever knew what it meant. Ouch. What a stunning admission! … Continue reading WHAT DOES “SEO” MEAN?

SPAM, SCAM, WHAM

It used to be that you only got spam on your computer. It was annoying and could be dangerous to the health and well-being of your computer and, potentially, your life savings. These days, wherever there is any type of communication, there are spammers and scammers waiting for a chance to steal everything you’ve got … Continue reading SPAM, SCAM, WHAM
