What other schools did you consider? Air Force, Brown, Tufts, Denison, Babson, and Amherst
How did the school you chose separate itself from the others you considered?
It had it all. The education was the big box I wanted checked off and Middlebury does that. The coaches are spectacular and are very comfortable with me playing two sports (Banks will also play football), not all coaches are like that. I knew that Middlebury had an environment that I could thrive in.
How would you describe your recruiting process overall?
It was long, hard, and frustrating at times, but most of all it was fun and rewarding. Not everybody can say they have gone through the prospective student-athlete process and I’m glad I experienced it. It all worked out perfectly in the end too which makes it that much better.
What was your favorite part of the recruiting process?
The most exciting part was obviously Sept. 1 when you begin to receive texts from coaches at midnight all at once. It is kind of like a wave of pride hits you because your work has paid off.
What opportunities and information assisted you during your recruiting process?
The preparation. At 91 we are encouraged to take hold of our process, create a list of schools we’re interested in and communicate with them throughout our seasons. Sending out emails with my schedule before every tournament I think was a big help.
Did you feel like you had support from the Team 91 staff during your process? If so, how?
Yes. Coach Flanagan is plugged in throughout the lacrosse world and him speaking on our behalf will go a long way. He also laid out how to create our target list, including a variety of divisional options, send emails, etc. Having him as a voice for me was a big part during my process
What individual or showcase events, if any, did you find the most beneficial during your process?
I found Showtime to be the most well attended event. It is super good exposure. I also thought the Project South showcase was great, that is what began opening the door with other schools as I was seen by a variety of coaches.
What would you tell younger players or parents to help them prepare for the recruiting process?
More times than not it is not going to go how you think. Despite that, if you stay consistent you will end up somewhere you belong. I would also say do yourself favors that are in your control: message coaches, play well and hard and keep an open mind to a variety of schools!
