Hello and welcome to the second installment of Idle Findings from a Moving Train, a new series I’m testing to share some favorite things I’ve found from around the web each month (because I’m trying to remind myself that not every Substack article I write needs to be a deep think-piece about homeownership.)
With that, here are some things that have caught my eye, I’ve DM’d to friends, or added to the abys that is my “saved” folder on Instagram recently.
1) Caught My Eye: Kisa Embroidery. Leave it to me to see a sequined fish bag on the internet and say OOOOOH MY GODDD. Hand-made by artist Karina Alekseeva, these bags are so beautiful and such conversation starters. I’m particularly fond of the herring, but also the goose (shown above) and swan ;)
2) Cooking: Eagerly waiting for the peak summer produce to hit at the local farm stands, especially so I can make my nightly dish of tomato-basil salad, but this cherry brown-butter cornmeal cake from Kulas Kitchen has me salivating. A great excuse to have neighbors over for an evening sweet treat in the backyard, or something fun to make for a potluck cookout.
3) Inspired By: The restoration of a 500-y.o. thatched-roof medieval barn in England. Would love to see this IRL one day.
4) Design Envy: This beaaaautifulllll bedroom with a bed designed by Nona von Haeften and shared to Instagram by @akindofhome
5) Currently Wearing: Last weekend I went to Fenimore Design Summit here in Litchfield County, and got SO many compliments on my red mesh flats that are under $30. I picked these up a few weeks ago, and they’re a great pop of red for any summer outfit (also cheap enough that you don’t feel precious about wearing them everywhere.) I also snagged these cute paracord sandals for $15. My Old Navy renaissance continues…
6) Listening To: I’ve been building this summer playlist of songs to listen to at the beach for six years…. It’s a long one, but a good one. Hit shuffle and soak up the sun.
Thanks for reading, see you next month!!
