Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Kane Kepley has one of the more intriguing profiles that you’ll come across in minor league baseball. Chicago used their second-round pick in the 2025 MLB Draft on Kepley out of the University of North Carolina, and he's quickly established himself as one of the more interesting young players in the organization.
Jamie Laskofski is already considered the best hitter to change addresses this offseason. D1 Baseball on Tuesday named the shortstop, who transferred to UNC from William & Mary in June, the No. 1 transfer hitter in the country. Laskofski, who will be a junior next season, went from mid-major standout to one of the most coveted names in the transfer portal.
When Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen popped up on the injured list with right elbow inflammation last month, it became uncertain whether he would ever pitch for Arizona again. On Monday morning, the O's announced they're promoting Honeycutt to the Double-A Chesapeake Baysox. Despite hitting just .182 for the High-A Frederick Keys in 63 games, Honeycutt still sports that same power Tar Heel Nation fell in love with.
Macon Winslow, the 6th round pick of the Phillies, showed what he can do with the bat when fully healthy. The former Tar Heel crushed a 406-foot homer, a three-run shot. Winslow might not have been around Chapel Hill for long, but his impact on the Diamond Heels was very important. He played a big role in helping UNC get to the College World Series.
For Saint Paul Saints player and former UNC first baseman Aaron Sabato, it is a return trip. Double-A hasn’t proven to be a problem for Cubs prospect Kane Kepley so far. In his first three games, Kepley went 3-for-9 with a .600 on-base percentage. It’s been a tough health year for Orioles prospect Vance Honeycutt. He’s been out since July 14 with a left oblique strain. Austin Love has experienced some struggles since being promoted to Triple A.
