Hi Friends,

It’s Book Club time again!

This year we are joining with Million Praying Moms to go through Everyday Prayers for the School Year in August. We’ll start Monday, August 3rd.

I go through a copy of Everyday Prayers for the School Year every year as my boys begin school. Usually, I use the same book over and over; however, after three years of prayers, I’m going to have to start a new book this year! I have enjoyed using the same book over and over because it is helpful to have a reminder as I pray intentionally for their school year once again of how God has answered our prayers in the past, and I can trust him with this school year, too.

This has never been more true as all my kids are officially all in Middle School or High School this year. My oldest is now in the 24 month count down until college, and while I’ve taught college for almost 20 years and know this is expected and good, it’s making me catch my breath. “Stay in today,” I keep having to remind myself.

No matter where you are in your child’s schooling journey, early years (the ages my boys were when I wrote Everyday Prayers for the School Year) or looking toward college in the not-so-distant future, this book will help you pray intentionally for your child’s school year.

During August, we’ll pray through the book with a special focus on the fruit of the Spirit.

  1. Get your copy of Everyday Prayers for the School Year, or wherever books are sold. Right now Amazon has a 53% off sale (linked here), and you might grab a few for your friends and teachers, too!

  2. Listen to the Everyday Prayers podcast. Starting in August, we will go through Everyday Prayer for the School Year with Million Praying Moms on the podcast. There will be devotionals from the book, interviews, and more!

  3. Ask some friends to join you! There are a variety of ways to do this (I share some below), but the most important thing is to support each other as you pray intentionally for your child’s school year.

Some ideas to do the book club with others:

  • Pray with your friends–You might grab a friend or two and encourage each other over coffee or through texts as you pray together this month.

  • Plan a Back-to-School Prayer Breakfast–I’m joining with some friends in a mini-Back-to-School Prayer Breakfast at our local coffee shop. Nothing fancy. Just some friends gathering together on one of the first Fridays of the school year to pray for our kids, their teachers, and their friends.

  • Give a book to their teachers–each year I share a copy of Everyday Prayers for the School Year with my child’s teacher and let them know I’ve been praying for them this summer.

  • Praying with your Homeschool group–what better way to begin your school year together than praying for your kids and you, as the teacher, as you begin this new year!

  • Ask their teachers how you can pray for them–this school year, likely through email since my kids are older and we don’t have “meet the teacher,” I”m going to ask my sons’ teachers how I can pray for them this school year. I’m a little nervous about how it will be received since we’re in a public school, but I hope the gesture will be appreciated.

  • Parking lot prayers–you might take a group of friends and pray in the school parking lot a few days before school starts. Can you pray anywhere? Absolutely! However, I’ve seen God move in astounding ways when we pray intentionally in the places where we want our prayers answered.

I would love to know how you plan to pray intentionally over your child’s school year! Will you join us in the Book Club? Try one or a few of the ideas above? Something else? Please reply to this email or tag me on social @ taralcole. I’d love to know how you’re praying for your child this school year!

Let’s pray…

Father, no matter our schooling choice or our kids’ ages, there’s always a little apprehension and excitement as we begin a new school year. We ask that you go before our children into their school year. Pave the way for understanding in their classes, friendships that draw them toward you, teachers that see them and love them, coaches and directors who help them grow, and opportunities to serve others with the gifts you’ve given them. Please wrap around our family and help us be a light for you wherever this school year takes us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Grace and Peace,

Tara L. Cole
