Hello and welcome to the Tarabuster Substack page.
I’m Tara Devlin. I've been doing political commentary for a long time now — In fact, way before “independent media” was a phrase some people put on a business card.
I am the lesbian Buddhist daughter of an ex-nun and a garbage man. Despite being a card-carrying Teamster, and beneficiary of the New Deal, my dad was a “Reagan Democrat”, lulled by Rush Limbaugh into voting for his own demise, and mine. That’s where I cut my teeth — arguing with my dad, a Fox News victim, trying to convince him it sucks to be right, literally and figuratively.
I’m also in recovery, a veteran of the Army National Guard, an unapologetic animal activist, cat rescuer and pigeon saver. I’ve got a master’s degree in communications and am an armchair historian. Basically, I’m an unapologetic liberal trying to leave the world a little better than I found it.
Tarabuster is what came out of all that. It’s not neutral because no, “both sides” don’t do it. One side is incapable of functioning in a free, multiracial liberal democracy and the other side is the Democratic Party. That doesn’t mean I don’t criticize the Democratic Party or Democrats when warranted. My work is about pushing the country to live up to its promises of working for more than just those born with a trust fund and challenging whatever stands in the way.
I cover Trump, MAGA, and the billionaires feeding like parasites while working people struggle to make it through the week.
FDR’s New Deal policies built the middle class and gave us a time in American history called “The Great Prosperity” — that a well-funded, right wing counter-revolution spent sixty years dismantling. The good news is, we built it once. We can build it again.
