This one’s gonna be right to the point, because I’m sending this out later than I meant and have limited time. I’ll have a meatier post for you at the end of the year.
I mentioned last month that I’m launching a paid writing group in January. After a few weeks of fussing with the website while also trying to meet various other deadlines, and also really wanting to just check the fuck out until 2026 but being unable to do so…
It is here! It is live! It has pricing and also a name! I can start registering people! 30% discount if you register before January 1st!!! At this website which I am linking to again >RIGHT HERE<!!! It might still get a few design tweaks, but it’s in good enough shape that I feel comfortable asking people to share it.
(Though real talk: if you notice anything weird with the site, do not hesitate to respond and tell me. I’m doing this all myself here and am not above errors.)
I’m not going to give the full spiel here, because there’s a lot of detail on this landing page which I’m now linking for a third time. But the group is very much intended to focus on writing as an ongoing and dynamic creative practice, rather than as something that results in a set product or output. As such it’s open to writers of all levels and styles (fiction, poetry, playwriting, whatever).
We’ll meet online 2x per month in the evening CET, which means that peeps in the USA can take a writing break during the day! Alternating Sundays and Tuesdays. For our live sessions, the core components will be guided discussions (sometimes based on suggested readings), generative writing exercises geared towards experimentation, and (optional) opportunities for members to share work and receive peer feedback. It will not be as instruction-intensive as a workshop with a syllabus, but it will provide more structure and guidance than simply a “show up and write” group.
There will also be a community Discord for keeping in touch between sessions, and a 1:1 add-on for people who really want to dig in to their process and get more intensive feedback on their work. I may also try to wrangle in some “guest speakers” at some point, but that’s a ways off.
I’ll also be very responsive to suggestions from members if there’s a particular topic they want us to dig into - though there will need to be some consensus if we’re going to devote significant group time to something. I look forward to experimenting with what works and what people actually want, so I can use those learnings to develop future offerings under the “Writers’ Community Lab” umbrella. If I keep that name, which given that it’s me… who knows!
I’m registering people starting now, and anyone who signs up before January 1st will get a 30% discount on their first full month of membership - which will be February. We’re kicking off January 15th, so the January membership fee (aka the enrollment deposit) will already be prorated to reflect that it’s half a month.
Membership will be capped at 15 people, so the live sessions don’t get too big and impersonal. If someone drops out, I’ll reopen registration.
I’m assuming it’ll take a couple of months to fill the group, so anyone who signs up early will likely also have the benefit of more personal attention, and a chance to really bond with the other early birds ;)
