Hello and happy mental health spa day!
Today I’m discussing a feeling that is the achilles heel for most people and that is feeling POWERLESS. This is a horrible feeling and can make people explode in anger and frustration or break down in tears and desperation. It is a feel we want to avoid. It is horrible.
And yet, it is a very useful feeling once we know how to think it about it and process it by asking the right questions.
Most people misread this feeling. And take this feeling as instruction. They don’t ask the right self reflection questions.
Instead they think: “I need to try harder”
But powerlessness actually means:
I can’t change this person
I can’t fix this situation
I can’t control this outcome
And when you ignore that?
You get:
over-efforting
resentment
burnout
Pleading with your partner or family or company “can’t you see how hard I’m trying”
When you listen to it?
You get clarity:
What’s actually in my control?
my actions
my limits
my boundaries
That’s where change starts.
I explain this through a series of client cases.
