Friends of TAKE,
As we close out 2025, we’re sharing some big news: we officially closed on the building that will house our new Gloria’s Safe Haven emergency shelter for trans people in need!
This 7-bedroom, 3-bath former communal living facility is absolutely perfect for TAKE’s service to our community. Early next year, it will become TAKE’s permanent emergency shelter, a place where Black trans folks can land in safety, dignity, and care during moments of crisis. This milestone is huge, and it simply would not have been possible without you. In the midst of political turmoil, uncertainty, and ongoing attacks on trans lives, this property will offer our community a desperately needed refuge and stable place to land for years to come.
At the same time, this purchase is only one part of our broader housing vision.
In the months ahead, we have critical work to do:
Renovate the home and make it fully ready for residents
Purchase furnishings, bedding, and essential supplies
Build out the systems needed to operate a safe, welcoming shelter
And beyond that, we are preparing for the next phase of this work: identifying and securing properties for transitional and permanent supportive housing, so our community has not just a place to land, but a real home for the long term.
As we make our final communication 2025, we’re inviting you to help carry this work forward.
Before the year ends, will you make a donation to support Black trans housing with TAKE?
Your tax-deductible gift will help us open this new safe haven and move closer to long-term, sustainable housing solutions rooted in care and community.
Thank you for believing in what’s possible.
With deep gratitude,
-India Davis and the TAKE team
“As we close out the year, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to every supporter, partner, and community member who believed in and stood with TAKE Resource Center throughout 2025. Because of your trust, commitment, and investment, we were able to push forward meaningful work that directly impacted the lives of trans and gender-diverse people, especially Black trans women in real and tangible ways.
As we step into 2026, please know that your vision for this organization and your continued investment in it is far greater than what meets the eye. You are helping to build something lasting, something rooted in care, dignity, and liberation. Together, we are laying the foundation for long-term change that prioritizes the safety, stability, and well-being of our community. We will continue to fight for trans equity in all forms, with a strong focus on housing security, food security, and equitable employment opportunities.
These are not just needs; they are rights. The fight for our community is a long-haul commitment, and the work continues to prove just how necessary it is to move trans liberation forward, especially in times when our existence and autonomy are constantly challenged. As we enter this new year, we do so with hope, determination, and a renewed sense of purpose. Thank you for believing in the mission, trusting the process, and walking alongside us. Wishing each of you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2026. Together, we will continue to rise, resist, and build the future our community deserves.”
