Rob Beckman: Candidate for NRA Board of Directors

Rob Beckman currently serves as Vice President and Director of Hunting for the Ohio State Rifle and Pistol Association (ORPA). He is an NRA Benefactor member, an NRA Training Counselor, and the host of the Firearm Trainer Podcast.

Rob’s leadership extends to multiple areas of the shooting sports. As VP and Hunting Director for ORPA, he works to expand hunting opportunities for both members and non-members, focusing especially on engaging youth. Rob is advocating for Ohio hunters with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, gathering data on the use of bottleneck cartridges from neighboring states, hunter safety records, and the economic impact, all to support their safe and ethical use during regular firearm deer season.

With more than 20 years of volunteer service as a hunter education instructor for the State of Ohio, Rob has helped certify countless individuals in Ohio CCW and trained many instructors throughout the Cincinnati region. His commitment to quality instruction inspired him to launch American Defense Training, which educates the public on the proper use of pistols, rifles, and shotguns for self-defense and hunting. Six years ago, Rob recognized the need for expanded instructor training beyond the certification courses and started the Firearm Trainer Podcast, where he interviews experts to help trainers improve their various skills needed to meet the needs of their students. In 2025, his podcast was selected to participate in the first Voices of the 2^nd Amendment at the NRA Annual Meeting’s on the show floor. During the show Rob interviewed numerous people in the 2A space including NRA CEO Doug Hamlin, Ken Hackathorn, John Farnum, and NRA Education & Training Director John Howard.

Rob is a certified NRA Instructor and appointed NRA Training Counselor in pistol, rifle, shotgun, personal protection, and muzzleloading. He also serves as Regional Counselor for Refuse to Be A Victim and is a Chief Range Safety Officer. Rob participates in the SE Indiana Friends of NRA banquet in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, which ranks in the top 100 banquets nationwide, drawing nearly 300 attendees.

Active in Boy Scouts for over 50 years, having previously served on the board of directors for Dan Beard Council in Cincinnati, Ohio and now serves as a District Commissioner and a member of the Shooting Sports committee. Rob has served scouting on the local level as Den Leader, Scoutmaster, on the council level as district committee member and Order of the Arrow Lodge Advisor, and on the national level for regional and national service projects. He is also a merit badge counselor for the shooting sports of Rifle, Shotgun, and Muzzleloader, and helps maintain and improve shooting ranges while educating scouts about firearm safety.

In his professional life, Rob is an IT professional for a global manufacturing company. His career includes projects in corporate governance, logistics, organizational change management, service management, warehouse distribution, finance, and IT infrastructure.

Rob has been married to his wife, Glorie, for 37 years and is a father of two and grandfather of five. He is a lifelong resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, and holds a BSBA degree in Information Systems, a certified Professional Scrum Master (PSM), and previously was a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP). Rob is an avid hunting enjoying archery, modern firearm season, and muzzle loading seasons in Ohio chasing white tail deer.

- Restoring Member Trust: Rob believes the NRA has made progress addressing challenges from the past five years but emphasizes the continued transparency in how membership funds are spent to restore member confidence.

- Reinvesting in Education and Training: Education and Training (E&T) have suffered budget cuts over the last decade. Rob argues that training law-abiding citizens is a founding principle of the NRA and calls for increased investment, especially to counter misleading media information.

- Engaging the Next Generation: Rob highlights the importance of a long-term strategy to attract new NRA members, particularly younger individuals and diverse communities who support the Second Amendment. During COVID, 8 million new gun owners were reported by NSSF, yet NRA membership declined, indicating the need for greater outreach.
