where does the smell of fresh cut grass bring you?
Fresh cut grass
Each blade cuts through my senses;
Memories escape:
Summers locked in my room, chained to the page,
The smell wafting in windows of a withering cage,
Whipping down hills wrapping my body in blades,
Sharing my father as we play community games,
Sticky from sap and homemade lemonade.
Washing it all down the drain at the end of the day;
the scent of grass tattooed in my brain,
cemented in my dna.
The lawnmower in the morning like a church bell,
an alarm to a sacred space.
The first cut of the season is the sweetest,
in the now I partake.
