Fashion show soundtrack
A few years ago I keyed men’s makeup at one of Riccardo Tisci’s last shows for Burberry, which was set in an old building site in east London docks. Anne Imhof was doing a live performance piece with Eliza Douglas – head banging, drones, contemporary dance. Epic.

Fashion show I attended
I’ve done hundreds of shows, but mostly behind the scenes. I’ve worked with Junya Watanabe for over 10 years, and he is one of the highlights of my career for reasons that go far beyond make-up.

Fashion look from a movie
I watched Cabaret countless times as a kid, and I remember being hit hard by the role of Joel Grey as this Serge Lutens-ian, queer fashion and beauty creep. He’s a character that’s inspired me for years. Something that feels both surreal, Jungian and symbolic beyond just an aesthetic.

Thing I bought for under £50
Recently, an antique cast iron waffle maker from Kempton Park market.

Investment piece I purchased
I have a number of paintings from one of my favourite artists and closest friends, Phil Hale. Surrounding yourself with the energy of art you admire will do more for your wellbeing than any treatment.

Fashion item I prize more than any other
A Rick Owens black leather jacket with towering shoulders that my cat scratched 30 minutes after I got back home with it.

Advice I was given about working in the fashion industry
David Sims told me the single most important piece of advice when I was complaining about not finding people to collaborate with: ‘Do it yourself.’

Trend I wish would disappear
Anything that’s called a trend.

Moment I knew I wanted to work in the industry
I was asked to do body painting for an i-D editorial, and there was another ‘classic’ makeup artist on set. I was looking at their perfectly organised kit while scrubbing my paint brushes and clay basins in the sink and thought my life would be much easier if I did her job.
