Years ago, I started using Duolingo to learn French. I made it two or three years daily, until they completely changed the app and I left because I hated the changes. I downloaded it a couple months ago because I wanted to learn again, and found... ugh, it's just horrible now, how do people even use it still? Years ago, I started using Duolingo to learn French. I made it two or three years daily, until they completely changed the app and I left because I hated the changes. I downloaded it a couple months ago because I wanted to learn again, and found... ugh, it's just horrible now, how do people even use it still?

So I searched for new methods, preferrably with the least bells and whistles as possible.

And then, thanks to a random click on YouTube (do not get me started on enshittification there!), I found a page.

First downloaded Anki and then some highly rated card sets from the shared decks page

I love it, I felt so good when I could just zoom through flashcards. I even found some that used the old duolingo prompts.

I'm learning French again, and also added some cards on art, literature, medieval history and greek mythology, because it's wonderful to use it for areas I'm passionate about.

The app is playful enough to keep me interested in clicking the cards, and serious enough that staying focused isn't hard, like with Duolingo.

So happy!
