100 Questions for Webmasters
13th November 2025
This has been making the rounds lately. It's been a while since I've done a questionnaire as introspective as this. So let's start! Big thanks to MOUSEcky!
- 1. Please introduce yourself.
- I'm Mima, 20+, lover of music and men on screens
- 2. How long have you been making websites?
- Since 2021!
- 3. And what got you into the hobby?
- I've always had a passing interest in having my own website, but it wasn't until I was bored out of my mind during class one day that I decided to act on it impulsively. I'd learned a bit of HTML and CSS years prior and thought I should put it to good use since I enjoyed it so much.
- 4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
- Personal websites mostly, lots of introspection and stuff about the webmaster's life.
- 5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
- I plan out the content when I have a burst of inspiration and then do the design later.
- 6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
- Pretty much everyone in my neighbours section.
- 7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
- Writing! I'm reserved IRL but my hands loooove to type.
- 8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
- Design... my layouts and graphics are always basic. I have no eye for it.
- 9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
- I used to have a different layout for all pages but now I reserve variety for my various shrines. Which is still a lot of layouts mind you.
- 10. How confident are you with CSS?
- Still not very confident. I know enough to get a basic layout down but I'm lost on the more intricate stuff.
- 11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
- Not until now! I have several lists on this site that would be better suited for it, so I'm glad I know about it now!
- 12. What is your favourite HTML element?
- <detailds> and <summary>... It feels so satisfying to hide my yap behind something even though yapping is the entire point of my site
- 13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
- Write out the cahntent
- 14. Do you know JavaScript?
- I have no idea why I struggle so much with learning JavaScript when I can use Java, C, and to some extent Python just fine. I tried to seriously learn it a while ago but fetching different objects just confused me.
- 15. How about PHP?
- I had a look over the basic rules and it seems simple enough to pick up within a few days. But no, not really.
- 16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?
- No, just whatever I like to talk about
- 17. Are you more focused on content or design?
- Content for sure
- 18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?
- I own one under my real name but haven't updated its site in over a year. I probably never will at this point unless I go job hunting again. As for this site, I don't have plans to move to its own domain and paid-hosting, no.
- 19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
- So long as there's content and not raping my eyes, I don't really care
- 20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
- Most likely not and no. Any sins are for God to judge only.
- 21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?
- I like how these features of the old Internet has lived on!
- 22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
- My eyes glaze over them nowadays, I can't lie...
- 23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
- No, I don't have any regrets on how I started, even though it was typical Neocities graphic nostalgia slop. I almost miss those days in a way.
- 24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
- Yep... specifically design- and aesthetic-wise.
- 25. What text editor do you use?
- Plain Text Editor the way Allah intended
- 26. Why do you use that one?
- I have no idea. I have Visual Studio Code installed and I do use it on the rare instance I have to program something, but I don't like it for HTML weirdly. Maybe because I was so used to editing within the Neocities text editor...
- 27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
- On my server. 1GB is more than enough.
- 28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?
- I do appreciate how Nekoweb has unrestricted file types, but at least Neocities has a wider array of users, even if the most vocal ones are insufferable. I won't use either of them.
- 29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
- As of publishing, 275MB
- 30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
- Yes. Learned to do that the hard way...
- 31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?
- They both have their place. So long as I can read stuff, I don't have a preference
- 32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
- I don't think I do? There is probably more pink on my site than other colours but that's a subconscious decision.
- 33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
- I have felt like deleting fucking everything and restarting my site under a different persona. But I've shared so much about myself here and wouldn't be able to resist staying quiet on my new site lmao so I'll just continue trucking along here.
- 34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?
- I do! I talk with a lot of the people on my own button wall.
- 35. Do people in your real life know about your website?
- No.
- 36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
- I used to update nearly every day in the beginning, but now substantial updates are about twice a month, and edits/microblogs several times a week. So I suppose yeah, kinda often?
- 37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
- Yeah, I changed a lot. I realised lately that almost all my layouts took up the entire screen so I've compacted everything on my main layout.
- 38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
- Meeeeeeee
- 39. Do you do web design professionally?
- No.
- 40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?
- Never. I don't want to lose my soul in that manner. I do work an entry-level tech job though, funnily enough.
- 41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?
- Only a handful of people these days. I do want more penpals but I never reach out to people either.
- 42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
- Yes. I think about getting rid of Instagram every day but never do. I have a Facebook that I only use to get past log-in gates. I suppose Discord counts as social media too these days but I use it as an IM almost always.
- 43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
- Discord and LINE are the ones I use most frequently. I have Telegram too but I don't talk to anyone there at the moment.
- 44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
- If I feel like it. I don't put on anything specific, just whatever I'm into at that moment.
- 45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
- One website. I could not handle the effort for multiple.
- 46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
- Lots!
- 47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?
- It's my real self, the one that I would love to show people IRL but can't because society
- 48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?
- My definition of "good friend" is unnecessarily strict but I have made friends that I treasure a lot!
- 49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?
- Never had a problem with HTML but sometimes CSS does my head in
- 50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?
- Autoplay, tiny body text and cursors, and text that's not contrasting well against a background. F*ck all those who do this
- 51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?
- Maybe blog a little more? Stop being so reluctant to talk about your life ffs!
- 52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?
- I use both but mostly generic
- 53. Do you consider different browsers?
- I have thought about adding CSS support for Firefox where my existing code lacks but I can never be bothered.
- 54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
- Brave. Yeah it's Chromium-based but the adblocker rarely fails on me and you can disable the crypto stuff without a problem.
- 55. And what OS are you on?
- Linux Mint, specifically Cinnamon 21.1
- 56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
- I don't think people who use Linux don't have a strong opinion on it, seeing as it was a conscious decision. I was recently forced to use Windows 11 for corporate use and I think about putting a .44 magnum in my mouth every day
- 57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
- Not all my pages are. I do want to make my home layout semi-usable on mobile purely so I can check something quick on it
- 58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?

- I do want some parts of my site to have a better design but I'm not actively striving for that.
- 63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?
- I'm trying to be! I've drawn one (1) 88x31 button, otherwise I mostly pillage resources from everywhere
- 64. What are your favourite resource sites?
- I like Valentinely, YouTuube's Tiled Backgrounds, Bonnibel's Graphic Collection, Fool Lovers
- 65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?
- Probably using my plain text editor lol I know I'm making my life harder but I can't give it up for an IDE :(
- 66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?
- Ask yourself and seriously think over a) what you're actually going to do with your site, and b) what you want out of a website before you make one. Not to make it sound scary, but I always feel sad when I see an abandoned, barebones site.
- 67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?
- I sometimes hardcode exceptions to the stylesheet, but else all in CSS.
- 68. What do you think of frameset layouts?
- I've never seen any of those before. No opinion.
- 69. How about table-based layouts?
- Again, no opinion, so long as it looks okay.
- 70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?

- 71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?
- CSS for sure
- 72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.
- I have considered it many times but I don't believe I actually have.

- Only when the need arises.
- 74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?
- Definitely middle, and I have no intent of progressing higher unless my hand is held throughout the entire process
- 75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?
- Not really, only if I find something I like. And then I marvel at how much more complicated their code is compared to mine LMAO
- 76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?
- As I said, I'd learned a little bit in early high school during a class. Then when I started my website, I just searched up stuff as I went along on sites like w3schools and MDN web docs.
- 77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?
- Not often
- 78. Thoughts on floating elements?
- I rarely like them, I can't lie
- 79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?
- Really depends. Mostly vw/vh and % if I want it to be usable on most resolutions. Px is usually for fonts, borders, etc.
- 80. Do you have a favourite font?
- Hmm. I do like Liberation Serif way more than other serif fonts. Can't say I have an all-time fave though.
- 81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?
- It seems fun. We could just share ftp credentials no problem

- Regrettably, not as much these days. I'm quite comfortable with my small circle of sites I cycle through often.
- 83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?
- Yes and I would feel ecstatic!!!
- 84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?
- I don't make this site to impress anyone. It's funny to imagine someone thinking "damn, so many shrines!" though, whether in an impressed manner or otherwise.
- 85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?
- Considering I work in tech, kind of. My love has waned over the years though. I don't collect tech at all.
- 86. How often and for how long are you online?
- Almost all the time...
- 87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?
- Me. I'm so sure that I've spent more time looking at my site than everyone else combined.
- 88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?
- Nope!
- 89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?
- Haven't programmed much since I graduated. I never put that knowledge to use on my site either.
- 90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?
- They have their place, but I've never used them.
- 91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?
- No, I get number-go-up syndrome way too easily so I'd prefer to have no numbers at all. Weirdly, FC2 Clap does have a counter but it doesn't display on my site for some reason, and I'm not as inclined to check it.
- 92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?
- Yes. No comment, but those who know will know. I don't use imageboards often outside of a handful of threads.
- 93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?
- Most of the time it's in the editor, unless I'm starting a new section of the site or writing a really long article, then I'll use a rich text file.
- 94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?
- I don't think I'm cool at all lol, but I think some people around here have said so!
- 95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?
- Not all of my old work, but certainly a lot of it. And yes, I've deleted stuff out of shame.
- 96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?
- My answer to this question flip flops often, because I hate the idea of people observing me after I'm gone, through death or otherwise. I'm not one to care about leaving my mark on the world. But I'll probably leave it up anyway.
- 97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?
- I've gotten better at my opsec over the years. But all my thoughts here are genuine.
- 98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?
- Like I said, my definition is strict, and even if I relaxed it, I can't say I do have one at all.
- 99. And do you optimise the images on your website?
- Yes! My space is precious.
- 100. We're out of time! How do you feel after answering 100 questions? ....other than exhausted.
- Well I did this over two days so it wasn't too bad! Some questions stumped me a little though, or I was reluctant to answer.
