As the doors swing open for the 2026-2027 school year, a palpable sense of hope and excitement fills the halls of Benson Public Schools. This year marks a fresh beginning with the arrival of our new Superintendent, Dr. Julie Beddow-Schubert, a Minnesota native whose roots in small-town communities like Upsala, Little Falls, and Sauk Centre give her a deep appreciation for the close-knit spirit that defines the Benson family. What follows is a letter from Dr. Beddow-Schubert welcoming students, staff, families, and community to a new school year.
Building What’s Next with BRAVES Values
As I join Benson Public Schools and community, I am committed to the “Building What’s Next” vision and revitalizing the District’s commitment to fostering a thriving and future-ready learning community. At the heart of this journey are the BRAVES core values—Be Responsible, Respect, Achieve, Value, Excel, and Safety—which serve as our institutional ground truth. From our youngest learners at Discovery Kids learning how to cooperate with others in a joy-filled learning environment to children at Northside Elementary practicing “The Braves Way” by being kind, safe, and responsible, and culminating with our high schoolers meeting expansive accountability standards, we are building a culture where character matters as much as achievement.
A Season of Listening and Joyful Discovery
As your new Superintendent, I am kicking off the year with a Listening and Learning Tour, an initiative designed to capture the ground truth of our community. By engaging with students, staff, and local leaders, I aim to discover what the district should keep, change, and start to ensure we are meeting the actual needs of our families. Using this spirit of collaboration, I will ensure that every voice is heard as we strive to create a school environment where every student feels they belong. At the end of this letter is a QR Code that will help you get started with telling me what I should know as your new District leader.
Exceptional Opportunities for Every Student
Our students are at the center of everything we do. Whether they are exploring the trades, participating in our FFA or Business Partners of America (BPA), taking part in our standout music and fine arts programs, competing on the athletic field, or participating in over 55 College in the Schools credits, Benson Public Schools provides a wide range of opportunities to maximize student potential. Our goal is for every graduate to be future-ready—prepared to be Enrolled, Enlisted, or Employed. Our dedicated and caring staff are ready to guide students through joyful learning experiences that promote their physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. As we look toward the future, we celebrate our “Portrait of a Graduate”—individuals who are resilient, inclusive, and ready to make a positive impact on the world.
We invite you to join us in this exciting season of growth. Together, we are creating a vibrant environment filled with exceptional opportunities for every student’s success. Welcome back, Braves!
