Plastic Free July starts on Tuesday! Every year it lands as a mix of motivation and mild guilt for me, my zero waste performance really has waned since becoming a mom, despite best efforts.
I wanted to make the start a little easier for those who are new to this and want to participate (or those experienced zero wasters who can’t help themselves).
You told me last week in the poll that you like free downloads! So I went back through our guides and pulled out the ones I’d probably hand a friend. And I’ve bundled these into a downloadable guide with links to the relevant deep dives. It’s sorted into the swaps that impact human health more directly and the ones that have an impact on the natural world more directly. Plus a simple four-week plan for fun.

Also, a study out of the University of Bonn found that your kitchen sponge sheds microplastics every time it wears down, which is a very ordinary thing to have stuck in my head all week (here’s some better options)

Ceramic Cookware skips the PFAS found in old nonstick, but the titanium-dioxide nanoparticles and a one-to-five-year lifespan make ceramic coated less than ideal. Also did you know there’s a difference between ceramic coated and 100% ceramic?
