Antivaxxers have already brought the United States to the verge of un-eliminating measles, and the Trump regime is trying to give them even more power and influence. Ignoring the warnings of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the rest of the medical community, Trump yesterday signed an executive order calling for revamped childhood vaccine recommendations in line with his and RFK Jr’s discredited claims that there’s some advantage in spacing them out into separate medical visits. This would raise the risk that children will become infected with preventable diseases in between appointments. The order also calls for federal agencies to support challenges to strong vaccines laws.
The good news is that the states, rather than the federal government, have the authority to set the vaccination schedule for schoolchildren. Let’s make sure they know the public wants them to follow the medicine, not the propaganda. 🗣️ American Families for Vaccines has set up a tool to email our state lawmakers and encourage them to maintain vaccine policies grounded in science. Let’s put it to use and use the language to call them directly. 🗣️

VACCINES SAVE LIVES, LET'S SAVE VACCINES
One year ago today, Donald Trump announced he would send armed National Guard troops to occupy D.C. Almost 5,000 soldiers from 20 states are currently stalking the streets of our nation’s capitol, at a cost of $3 million a day, and there’s no end in sight – the Pentagon confirmed last month that they will remain deployed until Inauguration Day 2029. And analyses by both the Center for American Progress and the Niskanen Center have found that, despite regime claims, there is no evidence that National Guard deployments have reduced violent crime.
As Brennan Center counsel Joseph Nunn said, “armed military personnel standing on the street corners in an American city should never be normal.” 🗣️ The Free DC Project is encouraging us to contact the governors of the states whose troops are deployed and tell them it’s time for them to go home. We can find a tool to do so here. 🗣️
We can also take today to push back against a corporate collaborator with the attacks on self-determination for D.C. DoorDash has come out in vocal support of H.R. 9720, a bill that would permanently deny the city the ability to make changes to their tax code without explicit congressional approval. Why? Because the city government has imposed a whopping 20-cent fee on orders to fund food access programs for low-income families. Free DC is calling on allies to #DeleteDoorDash until they drop support for this bill and condemn ICE for hunting their delivery drivers. 🚫 We can find instructions on how to do so and how to let DoorDash know why here, and call scripts to contact our members of Congress in opposition to this legislation here. 🚫
Europe is facing another extreme heat wave and the NOAA just reported that July was the hottest month ever in the lower 48. The U.S. is having one of its worst wildfires seasons in years. A warm winter has left Lake Mead at record lows. Climate change is real, it’s here, and we need leaders in place who are prepared to deal with it.
The Environmental Voter Project works to get folks who understand this threat to show up to the polls, trying to identify and activate the estimated 11 million low-propensity climate voters who did not show up in 2024. Reports in the last few months have indicated Yale University may be the next institution to cave to the Trump regime in the face of its efforts to increase its shadow over higher education. A growing contingent of students, faculty and alumni are demanding Yale refuse to settle with the administration, which is investigating the university’s admissions policies to determine whether it unlawfully discriminated against white and Asian students. ✍🏽 Let's sign this petition, especially if we’re connected with the university in some way, to tell Yale it should "stand up for its students and faculty and defend diversity on their campus. If they cave to Trump now, he will continue to crack down on Yale’s students and faculty. Academic freedom and free speech on campus will be even more in jeopardy." ✍🏽
