A very special, work-related announcement to share:
Today, Early Wealth Partnership is announcing a partnership with Google.org — and California Governor Gavin Newsom and State Treasurer Fiona Ma are joining us to make it official.
Google.org is providing funding and pro bono engineering to build the Early Investment Accounts Navigator: a mobile-first, bilingual tool that helps families discover and claim every children’s savings account their kids qualify for. First launching in California, with plans to expand to other cities and states by the end of 2026, this mobile-first, bi-lingual tool will make it easier for all California families to connect to CalKIDS, HOPE Trust Accounts, 530A Trump Accounts, and locally operated child savings programs for their children.
California has invested $2.4 billion in early wealth accounts for 5.4 million children — and that’s just one part of a larger landscape of accounts families may not know their children qualify for, from local CSA programs to state scholarships to new federal accounts. Too many of those resources go unclaimed, not because families don’t care, but because the system is fragmented and hard to navigate. The Navigator exists to change that.
Here’s what it looks like in practice: a family in Oakland finds out their newborn already has $500 in an Oakland Promise account and $100 from CalKIDS — resources they didn’t know existed, now visible in one place.
In 2014, I helped win a Google Impact Challenge for Hack the Hood — a grant that helped scale an organization still going strong twelve years later. Now, a decade later, I’ve helped shape another Google.org partnership for a completely different project. Very few people get to do this once; doing it twice, for two causes I believe in deeply, feels like something worth sharing.
