This is, hands down, the best low-calorie treat we’ve ever made at home and we’ve tried a lot of them. One pint gets you 45 grams of protein for about 325–350 calories, and it tastes closer to a real McFlurry than anything we’ve bought in a drive-thru. If you’re trying to eat better this summer without giving up dessert, start here.
For any child or adult looking to satisfy their sweet tooth without inhaling 30–40 grams of sugar in one sitting, this recipe is for you. Instead, we’re replacing that sugar count with protein… 45 grams of it, in a dessert your kids will beg for seconds of!
Here’s how we landed on it. We’ve had a Ninja Creami at home for a while, but this summer made us realize how much we’d been missing it. Our kids’ screams for ice cream at the cottage were louder than a sonic boom, so we did what any reasonable parents would do: placed an emergency order and got a second Ninja Creami delivered straight to the cottage
And according to my wife’s girl math, between the Canadian Tire points, the fact the Ninja Creami was on sale for 40% off (I’ve linked it here), and the “ice cream, but we can make it way healthier” logic, this machine was basically free. I haven’t seen the actual math. I’m not allowed to see the actual math. But I’ve learned not to ask questions when the math works in our favour.
Good news if your kids are staging similar protests: this recipe will change the game because not only is it low calorie, low in sugar, and high in protein, it tastes incredible.
We bought the Creami for ourselves first, because it’s one of the best options out there if you’re trying to lower your calories without giving up your sweet tooth. Then the kids got old enough to start raiding it, and we realized it was doing double duty: satisfying their ice cream cravings without them inhaling 50 grams of sugar in a single bowl. Everybody wins. Nobody melts down in the driveway.
Below is our boys’ all-time favourite recipe, plus the tips that actually make the difference between “perfect creamy scoop” and “sad ice brick.” It’s the one that disappears first.
I truly believe the Ninja Creami is a great option for any person or family looking to be healthier. It is INCREDIBLE what high-protein, low-calorie concoctions you can create with this thing that still taste incredible. But before you get there, there are a few tips that make sure the recipe turns out perfectly, ones I wish someone had told me before my first attempt.
Every Ninja Creami disaster we’ve ever had comes down to skipping these two steps:
Warm the tub before you spin it. Pull it straight from the freezer and run it under warm water for 30–60 seconds. This softens the outer edge just enough for the blade to actually do its job instead of grinding against a block of ice.
Scrape the edges. Before it goes in the machine, run a knife or spatula around the inside of the tub to loosen anything stuck to the sides. Skip this and you’ll get that dreaded “sandy” texture instead of soft-serve.
Start on low/Lite Ice Cream mode, and then add toppings in centre and respin on “mix in mode”.
Do all three and you’ll get something scoopable, creamy, and worth the sonic-boom-level demands that got you here in the first place.

This one hits every craving and somehow still keeps everyone on track. Tastes like a McFlurry. Is not, in fact, a McFlurry.
Ingredients
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
1/2 cup Fairlife milk (best choice here — higher protein content)
1 tbsp sugar-free vanilla pudding mix (optional, but it makes it so much creamier)
2–3 crushed Oreo Thins
1–2 tsp sweetener of choice
Instructions
Blend everything except the Oreos until smooth and pour into your Creami pint.
Freeze overnight.
Spin on Lite Ice Cream mode.
Once done, open it up — there should be a hole in the centre. Add in your crushed Oreos, place the lid back on, and hit Mix-In.
Top with more crumbles or a drizzle of sugar-free chocolate if you’re feeling fancy.
Macros (approx., whole pint): ~325–350 calories | ~40–45g protein | ~25–30g carbs
(Swapping in Fairlife’s ultra-filtered milk over almond milk is what pushes the protein up and rounds out the calories — same creamy result, better numbers.)
Voilà… An ice cream that tastes incredible, keeps calories low, protein high, and smiles extra big. So many people confuse eating healthier with missing out, and I hope following our family shows you that just isn’t true.
Our goal is simple: love our food, stay balanced, and stay healthy all at once. We’ll still indulge in store-bought ice cream sometimes, but recipes like this one prove you don’t have to choose between your sweet tooth and your goals.
P.S. I just released my free 5-Day Running Guide: three running workouts, one follow-along strength session, no running background required. I absolutely despised running for almost 39 years of my life but now after just 4 weeks of running my HRV has doubled, RHR is in the low 40’s but most importantly I feel the best, most energized, stress free I have felt since having kids. I am SO excited to go on this journey so if you have any interest just click here and I’ll send it to you!!
