Most spreadsheet pain happens before the first cell is filled.
You know what you want to figure out:
a budget
a schedule
an inventory
a tracker
a system that doesn’t collapse later
But the blank grid asks you to:
name columns
guess structure
anticipate future needs
avoid rebuilding later
So people guess.
They rebuild.
They duplicate tabs.
They abandon sheets halfway through.
Not because spreadsheets are bad, but because they expect structure before clarity exists.
After helping people with spreadsheets for years, the pattern was obvious:
People don’t struggle with formulas first
They struggle with starting well
And once a sheet starts messy, everything built on top gets fragile
Most tools assume you already know the structure.
But most people don’t.
I built BuildMySheets to flip the order.
Instead of starting with rows and columns, you start with plain language.
You describe the problem once.
The tool generates:
a clean first draft
sensible tabs
clear columns
example rows
and a README explaining what each part is for
Not a final system.
The first good version.
From there, you keep refining, instead of starting over.
You can.
And you’ll usually get:
a text explanation
a table
and maybe a formula
But the moment you want to:
adjust assumptions
rename columns
add tabs
refine structure
keep iterating
You’re back to rebuilding manually in a spreadsheet anyway.
The difference isn’t intelligence.
It’s a persistent structure.
BuildMySheets creates something you can keep working with, not just read once. You iterate and iterate until you have a good first version.
It is:
a thinking-to-structure bridge
a spreadsheet starter engine
a way to avoid rebuilding three times
It is not:
a final system
a dashboard generator
a replacement for Sheets or Excel
Think of it as scaffolding, not the building.
This will resonate if you’ve ever said:
“I know what I want, I just don’t know how to structure it”
“This spreadsheet got messy fast”
“I rebuilt this three times”
“I hate starting from a blank sheet”
“I use spreadsheets to think, not just calculate”
If you want instant dashboards or charts, this isn’t the tool. BuildMySheets focuses on the structure you need first, so dashboards actually work later.
I’ve opened a public beta demo so people can test it themselves.
👉 BuildMySheets (free for now)
This isn’t a polished product yet. It’s an experiment.
If using it makes you think:
“Yeah… that’s exactly where my spreadsheets go wrong,”
Then I’m probably building the right thing.
And if it doesn’t, I want to know that too!
