• The DigiDaigaku Superbowl ad received mixed reviews and user experience feedback. It’s not clear whether the ad’s goal was to target web3 insiders, to build NFT awareness, or to onboard new users. Selections from Monday’s show:

  • 2%Nicky was reminded of last year’s Coinbase ad, and pointed out that a good ad begins with an insight. People not already in web3 would have had no insight with the DigiDaigaku spot—if we want to onboard people we need to keep it basic.

  • SilentMode and his wife tried to mint: he is in web3 and she is not. He was able to mint, but after scanning the QR code she looked at him and asked “what is a metamask?” The ad may have increased NFT awareness but was a high spend for limited customer acquisition

  • Discussion supported a consensus view that the NFT supply was scooped up by web3 insiders. NFTStatistics.eth offered additional data on this:

  Of the wallets who minted a Dragon during the Super Bowl, 70% had minted or bought NFTs before. Of the 30% that hadn't, one would think many were burner wallets. Broadly speaking, feels like a very degen-heavy group of minters who got the free money.

• Nerd Alert: Bitcoin mixer. This is a service that tumbles, or “mixes” crypto with other funds in order to obscure the original source. This creates advanced anonymity and makes funds difficult to trace. A number of funds like this around the world have been shut down due to their association with illicit activities.

• Nerd Alert: smart contract programming languages. A smart contract is a computer program that automatically executes all or part of a smart contract, and is stored on a blockchain based platform. Different languages are used on different chains, including these examples: Solidity (Ethereum), Rust, C, and C++ (Solana), and Cadence (Flow).

• Wednesday’s discussion about PFPs, and whether getting paid to flex a PFP could be part of our web3 future.

  • This discussion stems from On Chain Monkey unveiling their “flex your PFP” program, where sporting an OCM as your Twitter PFP gets you a multiplier in their Banana points system. The multiplier is tiered based on rarity.
