In last week’s session, we explored the question, ‘What am I trying to align with?’

For this week’s session, I posed the question, ‘How would you recognise the real you?’

This can be an easier question to answer because it focuses on lived experience. We can all remember times when we were so absorbed in something that we lost track of time.

Or when something made us feel alive, energised, curious, or when we experienced a quiet moment of absolute peace.

As always, the conversation evolved of its own accord. Interestingly, we found ourselves circling back to June’s theme of self-trust because the things that light us up are often our gifts, talents, and passions.

Think about what happens when something feels deeply like you, maybe a talent, an idea, or a desire to create, speak, lead or contribute, but you are afraid to let anyone see it? That’s when a familiar question arises, one we have repeated to ourselves before:

“What if I am not good enough?”

This is where alignment meets self-trust. The question then becomes, “If I know what feels like me, will I trust myself enough to follow through?”

Alignment helps us recognise our authentic selves. But self-trust gives us the courage to live as that person. Without it, alignment remains a nice insight rather than a way of life.

You want to move forward, but fear is shouting louder than self-trust. It’s not so much fear of failure as fear of the vulnerability that comes with being seen.

When we hide our gifts, we protect ourselves from judgment, but we also move away from ourselves. Alignment starts to slip away again.

When we are in alignment, there is an inner recognition that says, “This feels like me.”

Self-trust is the courage to step into that feeling, even though you don’t yet know the outcome. It is the willingness to take a chance on yourself and say: “I am going to do it even though I cannot guarantee the outcome.”

Every time you act on what feels true to you, self-trust grows stronger. And every time self-trust grows, it becomes easier to live in alignment.

When we’ve spent years adapting to fit in, pleasing others, or staying small to stay safe, showing our real gifts feels risky because it reveals who we truly are.

“What if I let people see the real me and I’m still not enough?”

That’s why self-trust becomes so important. You don’t need to trust that you’ll succeed. You need to trust that you’ll still stand by yourself whatever happens.

We know that alignment is about discovering who we really are. But recognising yourself is only the beginning. The harder part comes next. Will you trust yourself enough to live as that person? To use your gifts? To speak your truth? To follow the quiet nudge that says, “This feels like me,” even when there’s no guarantee it will work?

Alignment can mean doing things we’ve never dared to do before.

  • Saying yes to opportunities rather than backing away.

  • Letting ourselves be vulnerable by sharing our gifts.

  • Being okay with disappointing people occasionally,

  • Stop playing small and show up as you are.

As we have talked about many times, fear will never disappear completely. But when self-trust is stronger, fear will happily take the back seat.
