Nikki Parkinson · Styling You

This week I’ve been to see the sequel to one of my favourite movies, The Devil Wears Prada, not once but twice. If you’re not already booked to go see it, and it’s your kind of thing, do it. I’m usually not one to do back-to-back screenings of a movie but my girlfriend Anna organised a group booking several weeks ago for Wednesday night and then I received an invitation to the Queensland preview for the Tuesday night. OF COURSE I said yes. And I truly enjoyed both nights. The first for the wonder of it; the second for the detail.

It truly felt like a gloriously fabulous catch up with old friends you shared a life with 20 years ago. That feeling of picking up conversations where you left off? That. The chemistry between the main characters is still there and new side characters bring fresh energy. Hello Australian actor Patrick Brammell! It seems having an Aussie guy playing a part is now embedded in this franchise. First it was Simon Baker; now Patrick. I’m not mad about it.

The script is witty and filled with one liners and future memes we’ll be reciting like we continue to do from the first movie. The soundtrack is punchy and the fashion is spectacular. Cerulean blue is even given not one but two moments.

I did re-watch the first movie ahead of this week and had more than a few ick moments around the body commentary from the early 2000s. This time around there is still a bit of ick but there is also an acknowledgement of a different world with slightly more diversity. Slightly. I guess this is a reflection of the current fashion industry. Things are better than they were 20 years ago but boy, oh boy, they could be SO much better.

I’m not going to share plot lines because no-one needs a spoiler but I found The Devil Wears Prada 2 to be spectacular, funny and definitely worthy of a big screen viewing.

That’s all!

I’m a self confessed jeans (ahem) collector. Some may say I have a problem. I say devote more of your wardrobe budget to the things you love wearing the most.

This year will be a longer series shared on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. So far I’ve shared Part 1 and Part 2. Part 3 will be out tomorrow. The algorithm may not be showing you my posts, especially if you don’t engage with them, so if this is a series you don’t want to miss, like comment and save on the jeans posts so they’re shown to you in your social media feeds when you open the app. Yes, these days it’s not enough to follow an account on social media. The algorithm will show you what it thinks you want to see based on what you like, save and comment on. Frustrating but I don’t own the platforms or make the rules. By being a subscriber here, you’ll be able to catch up on anything you might have missed at the end of each month.

Oroton is a fashion brand that’s been a part of my life since I was little girl watching my mum get dressed and adding her final accessories. Like a fine wine, this iconic Australian brand just keeps getting better and this is your sign to experience the quality of its ready-to-wear clothing collection. And if you’re a mum, maybe drop a few hints to the gift buyer/s in your family ahead of Mother’s Day.

If you’ve ever stepped into a French pharmacy you would have seen this 94-year-old skincare brand. Now that you can shop Vichy in Australia Chemist Warehouse, my hot tip is trying the LiftActiv Collagen Specialist 16 range, particularly the Bonding serum.

I can confirm that lounging this lululemon set feels like I’ve booked myself into a luxury wellness retreat.

A weekend away (or longer) with the girls is the only time I don’t follow a travel capsule packing method. Because it’s all about the outfits! Queensland designer Zoe Kratzmann gets this. You just know you’ll feel amazing in every look.

I’ve added a few new pieces to my “pop of red” wardrobe while they’re available and in store because while I wear mostly neutrals, this is one of the colours I always wear, whether it’s trending or not. And it’s most definitely trending. I first shopped and clocked the resurgence of red when in Europe last winter. Now I’m seeing on northern hemisphere content creators for spring so it’s sticking around.
