Bonjour everyone! Cozy autumn nostalgia has officially invaded our feeds, and I have to admit that the breezy Parisian soirées are making it increasingly hard to resist this lush roll-neck sweater Fashion Substack seems to be gushing over. The warm summer sun is still very much here though (with a big threat of a fifth heatwave this week), and after stumbling upon this great anti-fall manifesto by Christina Tumminello it hit me: I’m once again not living in the moment. I’ve already folded up my summer memories and am getting ready to board the Fall/Winter season, having conveniently forgotten how persistently gloomy and grey (and kind of sad?) Paris can get beneath all its romantic charm. Christina’s piece snapped me right back to my senses. It’s only the beginning of August, for fashion gods’ sake! A girl still has every right to her flowy skirts and mini dresses and strappy sandals, n’est-ce pas?!
As you can imagine, the French are not letting August go to waste. Paris is officially empty, and the only shops still open are in the Marais, their vitrines staying positively summery. The few people still working are on télétravail, escaping to friendly country houses to fully savor August’s slower work pace (an excellent life hack, I must add). And the rest of us who remain—that is, me, the tourists and a handful of French rebels who took their vacation in July—are speed-walking past the crisp tree leaves blanketing the streets, determined to have their hot-girl summer in the city. This week’s street report serves as evidence that Paris is not giving up on summer just yet!
In this week’s list: What Parisians are wearing in the gardens and parks (it’s not just bikinis!), chic all-black looks (featuring a big set of Scrabble), plenty of transitional shoes spotted on the streets (including Parisians’ favorite closed-toe summer shoe and very comfortable heels), excellent pops of red, a peculiar encounter at Jeanne Damas’ café, a very fun Carrie Bradshaw moment, and more inspo for wearing your summer pieces in the city à la Parisienne. I also found my favorite cotton skirt on the market and a cute summer dress I’ll be wearing non-stop this August!
