2 days ago I posted one of my data-driven fashion event reviews, this time covering the 2026 Met Gala. It started when I saw the absolute wall of green carpet posts across all of the major fashion magazine Instagram accounts (the Vogues, Elles, Harper’s, etc.) and thought that using the engagement metrics on these posts would make for a great little data set — and give some insight into the topics that were making an impact this year. So: I scraped Instagram posts from 15 fashion magazine Instagram accounts, creating a dataset of the links, likes, comments, and captions for 695 posts. From here I did some light data manipulation, and could associate engagement metrics with specific people or brands (or topics). This can give us some perspective on which looks had the most eyeballs on them (and sometimes why).
Now you (my dear followers) had a lot of really great follow-up questions and I am going to do my best to answer them.
