A quick check-in from the studio and the shop floor. An hour ago I was fifty paces from the beach, and still didn’t hit the water. The sun was beating its goldenrod glory—warm, full, making everything sweat—but I realized I was much more interested in the breathless lane heading south, between wide country fields. That’s the way this season has felt: deferred. It’s August. Islands are calling. I’ll hit the beach soon, I know it.

I used some shots I took with Hipstamatic on an old iPhone—still probably my favorite digital camera rig—outside of Malibu Seafood on PCH. I miss that feeling of the black ghosts of the Santa Monica Mountains hunched over you to the right, and the blank pad of the midnight Pacific is the whole world on your left. If you’re in the mood for a Malibu night-cruise vibe, give it a watch.

We recently hosted Anhedonia Pictures as they shot the final scene for their upcoming feature film, Fractured. Actress Emelia Sherin took over as the store owner, while I played the customer. We had a blast on set—one of those fast-paced, high-energy conversations where you hit it off right away smooth and easy, talking about everything from your times with the Traficants and Dave Grohl’s low-key visits to Warren to swing dancing and stones in the desert.
The film is currently in post-production and slated for release later this year.
