Sally-Anne Ashley Art · Stuff artists talk about...

This morning in THE ARTHOUSE, we gathered for a Create in the Café session - around the theme of PLAYBOOKS.

On the surface, it was a simple session: artists pitching up to work alongside one another in their sketchbooks, journals and creative playgrounds. But as is so often the case, the conversation wandered far beyond the pages 🌿

We found ourselves talking about play and the language we use around it, developing ideas, following nudges, taking things at our own pace, and the importance of ‘going too far’ - I share my thoughts about this in the video…

These types of conversations are one of my favourite parts of hosting THE ARTHOUSE. They remind me how much wisdom exists when artists come together and share their experiences - it absolutely fills me up!

I left the session feeling energised, grateful, and full of ideas for the day ahead 💫

I thought I’d share this short video as a little glimpse into the morning.

Every month inside THE ARTHOUSE, we host a number of Create in the Café sessions.

Some are guided by me, while others are hosted by our wonderful ARTHOUSE Guides and volunteers. They might centre around a particular creative prompt, process, interest, or simply offer a space to gather and create together.

Over time, these sessions have become one of the most special parts of our community.

They give members an opportunity to share something of their practice, explore ideas with others, build confidence, and gradually become more visible within the group. I’ve seen people step forward to host their first session, share their work more openly, discover new interests, and develop meaningful connections with fellow artists.

The creative activity itself is always valuable, but so much growth happens through the conversations, encouragement, and sense of belonging that emerge along the way.

If you’re curious about what it’s like inside THE ARTHOUSE, you’re very welcome to come and experience it for yourself. We offer a free trial month, giving you plenty of time to explore the community, join the sessions, and see whether it feels like a good fit for you.

We’d love to welcome you 🏭
