I want to invite you into something simple and meaningful. Each week this month, set aside a little time just for yourself. This is your chance to nurture your creativity, curiosity, and imagination. These are your artist dates, a practice I learned from The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. They are not about producing perfect work or finishing a project. They are about showing up for yourself, noticing small pleasures, and exploring in ways that make your heart feel lighter and alive.

If you are new to this practice, you might be wondering why it matters. You can read how artist’s date changed my business and my life here. I talk about how I actually made space in my schedule and how it has changed me as a creative.

February can feel long and cold. The days are short, and it is easy to get stuck in routine. These artist dates are a gentle way to shake that off. You can do them alone in quiet and comfort, or invite a friend to share the experience. I know, I know, breaking the rules but I have found that some things are better experienced together. And I will be damned if I am confined to arbitrary rules haha!

Taking this time for yourself is not indulgent. It helps you reconnect with your imagination, spark inspiration, and notice beauty in ordinary moments. Creativity does not need to be earned. It is already inside you, waiting for a little attention. These artist dates are invitations to explore, play, and celebrate yourself.

1. Valentines/Galentines Craft Party

Host a little craft session by yourself or with friends. Make cards, vision boards, decorate candles, bake cookies, journal together, or create something that feels luxurious. Buy flowers and treat it like a celebration, even if it is just for you. Set the scene with soft music, candlelight, and beautiful materials. Make this experience feel special and intentional.

2. Music to Move By

Curate a playlist that sparks your imagination. Pick songs that make you feel joy, calm, nostalgia, or excitement. Let the music guide your sketches, doodles, or paintings. Move, sway, sit still, or simply let the rhythm inspire your hands. I have put together a February playlist for you to enjoy and spark your creativity, and you can follow it while you create.

3. Romantise Baking

I’m on the hunt for the best butter cake recipe this month and I’m planning on romanticising the enter process. I also invite you to pick a recipe you have been wanting to try and give yourself the space to really focus on it. Make it special and extra. Use edible flowers, beautiful plates, or a cake stand to showcase your creation. Take your time, enjoy the colours, textures, and smells, and treat the baking process as a creative act in itself.

4. Venus Day Self-Care

Devote a day entirely to pampering yourself. Indulge in activities that feel restorative and luxurious. Here are a few examples for your very own Venus Day:

  • Get a massage or mani-pedi or both!!

  • Take a long, warm bath

  • Spend the day in your favourite pyjamas

  • Watch your favourite movies or read your favourite books by candlelight

  • Romanticize your entire evening and make it feel special just for you

Bonus: Monochrome Solo-Date

Grab a sketchbook and one coloured pencil. Take it for a walk or bring it to a café. Sketch your surroundings using only that one colour. Limiting yourself to a single colour helps you see details you might usually miss.

Journaling is a simple way to deepen your experience with each artist date. Take a few quiet moments at the beginning and end of the month to reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and discoveries. There are no right or wrong answers. Let your words flow freely and notice what comes up. These prompts are here to guide you, spark reflection, and help you capture the small joys, surprises, and insights that your creative practice brings.

  • What does creativity mean to me right now?

  • How do I feel when I give myself permission to play?

  • What small creative act can I commit to this month?

  • Which artist date brought me the most joy or surprise?

  • How did it feel to take time just for myself?

  • What did I discover about my creative self this month?

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed the very first month of Artist Date Invitations. My intention is to share these monthly prompts to help you slow down, play, and reconnect with your creativity.

I would love to hear from you. Which artist date are you most excited to try this month? Did something surprise you, spark joy, or make you see things differently? Share your experiences, photos, or little victories in our Substack chat. This space is for celebrating your creativity, cheering each other on, and finding inspiration in the small, joyful moments. I can’t wait to see what you create and hear about your February adventures.
