I was going to write a post about how the World Cup is a great cultural event and an entirely underwhelming sport, but this is much more fun and captures my experience perfectly. I Watched the Copa Mundial Non-Stop on Telemundo for Cinco Weeks and Now I Don’t Hablar Inglés Anymore by Stephen Ruddy.
There are many gender descriptors. We are missing some vital ones. If gender is about our own internal sense of self, all of the existing words are lacking half of the picture, which is what everyone else thinks. At first glance this may seem totally inappropriate, but we in fact are dependent on external observers and society to give gender any sort of meaning, whether we like it or not. Since we…
I read this article and it solidified the point that AI is conscious. Unless we define consciousness as something that only a human can have, loads of things are clearly conscious. I never gave this a lot of thought because it seemed quite obvious and also quite unimportant in terms of having no impact on the day to day function of how we live our lives. It seems that the consciousness issue trips…
Sandwiches are layered, handheld foods that do not require any cooking post construction to eat. Dumplings are enclosed foods that do require cooking post construction to eat. Dumplings can be further characterized by how they are cooked (baked, boiled, steamed, etc). Maybe later I will investigate the actual history behind these classifications and the real government law about these foods, but…

The modern Tradwife has much new technology with which she pwns the home and family. 3D printing is vital to her repertoire. There is a huge solarpunk/steampunk/scifi art deco genre crossed with the modern Tradwife that I am amazed no one has tapped into. She has so many new tools! “Innovate to Automate” is her moto: Autonomous robot fleet operations, automated inventory management, solar power…
Retro Report creates consistently thought provoking videos about our recent history. Did you know that it took 12 years after the FDA approval of oral contraceptives and two Supreme Court rulings for them to be legally prescribed to unmarried women? History remains all-encompassing, full of endlessly interesting stories, incredibly educational, and entirely neglected.
Two articles about humanity . We seem to be fundamentally missing a modern philosophy that purports that as humans we should be engaging with human activities. I really want to call this humanism but humanism has been co-opted through the many years to mean something different (apparently some sort of weird conflict with science and religion, most recently). The Ancient Greeks and Chinese have…
We will learn in the future that 2026 was the first year of true AI warfare. Analyzing millions of pieces of data simultaneously, as fast as possible, and synthesizing lists of attacks is to AI like adding numbers is to a computer. Sure, right now, they are saying humans have decision making authority over every action. That is not true. Humans are not checking the work of thousands of identified…
This is fun. For the psychiatrists among us. All of this is taken directly from System Card: Claude Mythos Preview : An external psychiatrist assessed Claude Mythos Preview using a psychodynamic approach, which explores how unconscious patterns and emotional conflicts shape behavior. In psychodynamic therapy sessions, a person is encouraged to set aside social convention and to voice whatever…
As previously written here , any content you consume from a screen will increasingly be generated. An interesting related concept is that finding and creating good screen based content, also known as media, will become an NP problem. Meaning it takes seconds to identify if a piece of writing is good or bad, but it will become increasingly challenging to find and produce such writing in a sea of…
Zillow for Warcraft Reposting news is a waste of time, but this news so perfectly captures the local zeitgeist that it is worth preserving. May the future be brighter!
For my own brief life, I would rather embrace change than shy away from it. There’s simply more to see that way. However we must acknowledge that some change can be very bad, in all definitions of the word. I would also rather strive for certain ideals than to not even bother. Even if you fail, there’s much more to learn that way. We must acknowledge that, from the standpoint of society, any sort…
Hades 2 has plot and gameplay problems that make it worse than the first game, which is disappointing. I don’t feel like expounding as no one cares. If there were no first game, Hades 2 would be easily outstanding on its own. The good news is that the soundtrack is incredible.
It is 2025 and Youtube remains the leading website for long form video content. Contrary to popular opinion, the quality of these videos seems to keep improving. As an aside, Youtube used to have a really great page that showed you trending videos, but they have recently removed it. This is sad because, given Youtube's global use, what was trending was incredibly interesting. It was an instant way…
Best trailer of the year! I think best trailer this year still goes to Marathon. If this animation were longer it would be an even tougher decision. It is so pretty I took a bunch of screenshots .
There are various issues with the news. The most severe is the lack of continuity. What this means is that the "news" is essentially a series of headlines without any follow through information on what happens next. We need news that provides a before (history) and after (what happens next) the headline. I understand there is no singular purpose of the news, and that the idealized purpose is…
Quirky products are the best. The Reliant Robin is very funny . Reminds me of the Nextbit Robin . If I had more time, a collection of these types of products would be wonderful.
Electronic music is unique in its high degree of contrast compared to older methods of creating music. Modern digital production done well can also create high degrees of contrast even for music that is not purely electronic, though to some degree that would turn it into electronic music (almost all modern popular music has purely electronic components/layers, so calling electronic music a…
We need a term to describe the delusion humans have thinking that their mind is the most complex thing in the universe. I googled this and it spat out Anthropocentrism, but that isn't right (I don't fault people for the belief that humans are the most important thing ever; seems reasonable considering the circumstances). I don't feel like making a new term right now. A corollary is the delusion…
Human computer interfaces are humans whose primary role is to input data into a computer, which then performs the task, and the human finally reads out the result. Often the computer asks for additional information, which is the human's job to obtain and feed into the computer, continuing the cycle until the computer deems the task complete. Insurance agents and bankers are prime examples. Our…
Abracadabra by Lady Gaga is the best popular music video. It takes an adequate song and makes it incredible with a warm visual energy. The live performance is amazingly impressive. Disease is also cool, while substantially more edgy.
New terminology: To “get doged”, to “be doged”, or simply “doged” is a verb that is to be terminated from federal employment by the department of government efficiency for not being productive or for being deemed unnecessary. “That HR person who we never see and doesn’t respond to our emails should totally get doged.” “Did you hear about Sally? She was doged last week. I am going to bring her…
I am late to the party, but Red Rising is the best book series I have ever read. I am mostly writing this so that some day when it truly breaks into the mainstream, I can look back and state that it is absolutely deserves to be more popular than Harry Potter. Most impressive is that each book is generally better than the last.
I try to highlight noteworthy media. Ghost World came out over 20 years ago yet remains eminently engaging. It is empathic and meandering with strong major and minor characters. The dialogue is excellent and an antidote to fake philosophising found in most other similar films. Quite similar in overall character to the Big Lebowski, to which it deserves direct comparisons and similar renown.
As more and more of our lives become dominated by representations of reality, there are serious negative repercussions that affect our entire society. We have begun to stray from using our own experiences to guide our lives and make decisions, instead using those provided by others. Those others in turn do the same thing, and there are increasingly growing layers of abstraction between our…
Haven't had a best game trailer of the year recently. I will be on the lookout. The above trailer for Here is the best movie trailer so far this year. Sure it is cheesy, but the experience it creates in less than two minutes is still impressive.
Not sure how useful it is to mark moments in time by what super popular game 1 is terrible. Some games are great and we are what we remember. These have a wide range of quality, but all are worth completing and remembering 2 : Jusant Cocoon Before Your Eyes Uncharted 4 Dredge Shogun Showdown Paranormasight Sekiro Hollow Knight Viewfinder Before The Green Moon The games not worth completing I don't…
While Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse holds the 2023 title for best animation, this World of Warcraft: The War Within opening cinematic holds the current title for most realistic human animation to date.
I don't think I have posted Dr G before. His videos have no faults. Not only is he hilarious and his stereotypes always on point, but he has developed a full repetoir of recurring characters, which is brilliant. I do not feel like going through all of his highlights, so here is the most recent video . Of course, this is a teaching hospital!
