Across the courtyard the same number of floors up as me
a man is responding to a crying toddler with parallel cries.
the kid goes, wuah. the man goes, wuuaah.
hard to tell whether kid is pleased or displeased but certainly
continuing their catalogue, and with greater ranger than the man.
the man sort of keeps his voice down, considering he is yelling,
whereas the cry of the toddler wails growls and in-between.
today is the assumption of Mary and everything is closed.
wuahahahagh, the man says, echoing across.
neh, duuu, the kid says, somewhat pitifully.
the orchid in the window clings to its last living flower,
the color Pantone coins today to commemorate Prince.
the assumption is just when she goes up to God.
people are not particularly catholic here, although they are
personally conservative says my host this week.
It’s hot out and in. I wear a short skirt and defensively
wrap a sweater round it.

The submerged air bubble sounds of pigeons taking off and landing
girl chill
Eating green onions by the stalkful I am a spicy cow
I hate especially the runty nuts left by a nectarine
pit that would meld to one with his fruitflesh again
-
like fuck the fuck off

I am become horseradish grass
ballsy and smooth
with tart sinews like electrified cornsilk and emerald brown
fighting enough spreadable gouda to slick-choke a farmhand

It repulses me that humans need to eat. And so much.
And so often. I need more time
away from my body than I get.

I’m disembarked here constantly, as it is,
Vienna smack on my line of Neptune.
Ask me how I’m feeling and hear another.

I’ve been all-woozy, all-dancing (with stronger ankles than I’d thought)
a trip now again (same trouble bowing my right knee).
-
Green onion still grotesquely raw on the tongue
at least clears the richer sandwich some its fatness.
Don’t ask me about the cold bursting nectarine
-
I think I need a straw for it
