The Herald is out and about this morning visiting schools on the South Warwickshire patch as students pick up their much-anticipated results - updates on individual schools when we get them, see below.

This year, over 6,700 Warwickshire students have completed GCSEs or equivalent qualifications such as BTECs and other practical and applied learning qualifications at schools, further education colleges and with training providers.

Early results from this morning indicate a positive picture across the board though full results from individual schools are still being collated.

Detailed data about the county’s overall performance will be published by the Department for Education (DfE) in the autumn.

Councillor Wayne Briggs, Warwickshire County Council's portfolio holder for Education, said: “I extend congratulations to all Warwickshire students who will receive GCSE results today. This is a significant milestone, and your hard work, dedication, and resilience over the past two years have truly paid off. We're incredibly proud of your achievements, and it's fantastic to see such positive early indications from schools across the county.

“For those students whose results might not have been what they hoped for, please remember that this is just one step on your journey. There are many options available, whether that's further education, apprenticeships, or other training. Support is available through schools and colleges, as well as services like Shaw Trust and the National Careers Service. Whatever your results, we want to help ensure you are set for the future, and we're here to help you explore the best choices for you."

Students who did not receive the results they expected can get advice, guidance and support from their schools and colleges or the Shaw Trust (previously known as Prospects), Warwickshire County Council's commissioned careers support service for free independent careers advice. Stratford Girls’ Grammar School

Stratford Girls’ Grammar School says it is delighted to have scored the strongest results since the introduction of the current GCSE grading system, and among the strongest in the school’s history.

Headteacher Jacqui Cornell said: “We are absolutely delighted with these superb results, which are the best achieved by the school under the current GCSE grading system. They reflect the hard work, determination and ambition of our students, as well as the support of their parents and carers and the dedication of our staff. I would like to thank everyone who has supported this year group throughout their time with us.

“At SGGS, our mission is Shaping Futures. Results matter, and these are results of which our students should be very proud, but they are also part of a much wider school experience.

“Over their time with us, this year group has grown in confidence, independence and ambition, and we are proud not only of the grades they have achieved, but of the young people they have become.

She added: “We look forward to welcoming all those joining our Sixth Form and wish every student receiving their results today every success as they move on to Sixth Form, college or their chosen next step.”

This year’s SGGS’ results include:

40% of all grades awarded at Grade 9

71% of grades awarded at Grade 9 or 8

88% of grades awarded at Grade 9 to 7

97% of grades awarded at Grade 9 to 6

100% of grades awarded at Grade 9 to 4

The school congratulated all the students who achieved outstanding individual results, and singled out one student who achieved 11 Grade 9s and four students who achieved 10 Grade 9s.

Stratford upon Avon School

Stratford School is celebrating some of its best-ever GCSE results.

“We are delighted that our Year 11 students have also achieved some of the best results we have ever had,” headteacher Neil Wallace told the Herald.

“A school-record 51 per cent of students achieved the key threshold measure of grade 5+ in English and Maths, whilst, as a comprehensive school, we are delighted that 23% of all our GCSEs were graded 9-7.

“Particular mention to the French department, whose best-ever results provide a timely springboard for the reintroduction of the subject at A Level. With record numbers of students achieving 5 or more grade 5s including English and Maths, this is a reflection of the impact of both high quality teaching on a daily basis and the value of our ‘Aim Higher’ sessions which students attend voluntarily afterschool. We look forward to welcoming lots of students into the Sixth Form, including many from other local schools who have also been enrolling online today.

“Equally, as a comprehensive school, we have always prided ourselves on offering a broad and balanced curriculum. Rather than shoe-horning individuals into the so-called EBacc and trying to boost our standing in performance tables, we understand the importance of students doing the right courses for the right reasons.

“This has been reflected in establishing our Architecture (Design, Engineer, Construct) course, which continues to thrive as a beacon of excellence and helps provide the skills base the nation needs. Despite being an excellent qualification, unfortunately this has for years not been counted in the school league tables, but we have continued to offer it to support students and the local economy, particularly vital at a time of HS2 construction.

Mr Wallace continued: “New Prime Minister Andy Burnham has spoken about the importance of parity of esteem between more technical and vocational subjects alongside academic routes and, if we are to achieve that ambition, courses like this need to be properly recognised.”

Individuals named as giving standout performances included highest attainers: Madeleine Toovey, Phoebe Elsworth, Kuba Jarosz, Elodie Williams-Kenny, Tom Jackson, Ava Smith, Isabelle Wilson, Sasha Serhiienko and Advait Kewalramani.

Mr Wallace added: “This is the cohort whose final two years in primary school were disrupted by the pandemic so there are no SATs scores to show accurate progress data. However, many students have made excellent progress from their respective starting points and should be particularly proud of their results.

“Congratulations to all of our students who have now completed their compulsory schooling, as well as our dedicated members of staff and the families who have supported them throughout the last 5 years. We wish every one of our students the very best for the future.”

Alcester Academy

Alcester Academy is celebrating the strong GCSE results achieved by its Year 11 students this summer.

The school said the results are a particularly positive achievement for a cohort whose education was significantly disrupted during Key Stage 2 by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite these challenges, students have worked hard throughout their time at Alcester Academy and have secured outcomes of which they can be proud.

An Academy spokesperson added: “The school is pleased with the results and, most importantly, with the progress and commitment shown by students throughout their GCSE courses. Students have also successfully secured their post-16 destinations, with many moving on to sixth form, further education, apprenticeships and other pathways.

“The results reflect the determination and resilience of the cohort, as well as the support provided by staff, families and the wider school community.”

Among the students that did well, was highest attainer Faith Griffiths, who scored straight grade 9s across the board and is off to apply for a place at KES.

Headteacher, Sarah Mellors said: “We are very pleased with the GCSE outcomes achieved by our students. This was another cohort whose education was disrupted at a crucial stage of their Key Stage 2 experience by the Covid-19 pandemic, making their achievements all the more significant. Our students have worked extremely hard, and we are delighted that they have secured their post-16 destinations.’’

“On behalf of all the staff and governors at Alcester Academy, I would like to congratulate every student on their results and wish the whole cohort every success and happiness for the future.”

The school added that the results of a recent Ofsted Inspection would be shared soon.

Alcester Grammar School

For the third year running, Alcester Grammar School students have delivered record-breaking GCSE results, with major gains across every key measure. Half of all entries (50 per cent) were awarded top grades of 8 or 9 - a sharp rise from 44 per cent last year and 37 per cent in 2023. Additionally, 74 per cent of entries achieved grade 7 or higher, up from 66 per cent in 2025 and 62 per cent in 2023.

Standout individual performances include 33 students securing five or more grade 9s, and 11 students achieving straight 8s and 9s.

Principal Rachel Thorpe shared her pride in the results: "Huge congratulations to our 152 Year 11 students on these exceptional GCSE results. Their success is a direct result of their relentless effort and focus. We are thrilled to welcome most of this cohort back to our Sixth Form this autumn, and we wish every single student the very best for what lies ahead. My sincere thanks also go to our incredible staff, whose guidance was key to delivering our highest-ever results for a third consecutive year."

King Edward VI School, Stratford

Students at King Edward VI School (K.E.S.) are celebrating the third highest GCSE results achieved at the School, with over 86.1% papers receiving the top 9 to 7 grades. Thirty-eight students achieved five grade 9s or better including Pranav Gupta, Rachit Kumar, Joshua Tan and Louis Welzel who obtained ten grade 9s.

Bennet Carr, Headmaster, said “These excellent outcomes are just reward for this year group. They have shown themselves to be kind in their support of others, respectful and upstanding in their conduct, adventurous in embracing the many opportunities available to them and resilient when faced with challenge and adversity. Indeed, the character they have displayed as individuals, and their contribution to the wider life of the School, has been every bit as impressive as their success in these examinations. I look forward to them entering the Sixth Form alongside the new students joining us this September. Together, they will form a vibrant and talented year group, and I am excited to see what they will accomplish over the next two years”.

Mr Roper told the Herald: “Once again we are exceptionally proud of the outcomes of our wonderful students at Henley-in-Arden School. Students on average beat their targets by over half a grade and we celebrate some amazing subject outcomes - due to the hard work of our students and staff including 90 per cent pass rate in Art, 80 per cent in English and outstanding progress rates in our BTEC subjects, alongside around 139 grade 7-9s. This puts many students in the highest achieving brackets nationally. We are proud of all of our students and well done to the staff and our community for their continued support in ensuring successful outcomes and futures.”
