Greetings everyone,
We hope you are safe and warm and finding ways to resist and protect one another. We deeply value the community we have started to build, and we recognize how essential community and connection are to survival, especially in times of crisis. We have regrouped and assessed our capacity and would like to share our plans for serving and supporting this community in 2026.
We are planning to host a series of workshops and conversations this year, at a frequency of once a month or every other month. We are keeping a running list of topics to address, so if you have a suggestion or request, feel free to leave it in the comments! Please mark your calendar for our first workshop of the year.
A Virtual Workshop With Daniel José Older
Sunday, February 15th at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET / 11 PM BST
As we move into our commitment for a more intimate Story Sunbirds, we’re kicking things off with a workshop led by author Daniel José Older. Please join us for a riveting discussion about how the chaotic world we inhabit can and should shape our narratives.
Please note: we’re handling registration differently this time around. Email us with the subject “February Workshop” to express interest in attending (along with a personal site or social media account) and you will be sent the link after we’re able to vet.
All workshops are free but during the call we will request an optional sliding scale donation of whatever you can afford for the workshop. Fees will be used to cover our Zoom account, website, and other administrative costs.
In between workshops, we will read and discuss the book Mutual Aid together, in sections over the course of several months, with poet Rachelle Cruz facilitating. The author, Dean Spade, made the book available for free at the link above. We feel this is an essential read at this time that will help us be intentional as we join forces to help each other survive and to work toward a better world.
Finally, we ask you to consider donating an item to the third annual Kidlit for Ceasefire Auction. While our federal government terrorizes our cities, people in Gaza continue to suffer unimaginable hardship and cruelty. The form is accepting donations until January 31, so please donate today!
