The job you complain about was once the job you desperately wanted. The person who annoys you at breakfast was once the person you couldn’t stop thinking about. The apartment that feels small was once the one you dreamed of getting.
Don’t dream about the things you don’t have. Take the best things you do have, and remember how much you wanted them before they were yours. How you would crave them now, if they were gone.
Wanting has a blind spot. The moment something becomes yours, it disappears from view. You stop seeing what you have because you’re busy scanning for what’s next.
The fix isn’t to stop wanting. It’s to spend some of that wanting on what’s already here.
