Gosh, it’s been about a year since I shared an update on my hand-sewing project. It’s called Evensong, pattern and kit available from Jodi of Tales of Cloth. The block is the traditional Rose Star, scaled to a generous size for quicker results.
I took this photo of my blocks before moving house earlier this year. I make these blocks in batches of 2 or 3. Before I cut a new batch of fabrics, I like to take a good look at what I’ve already made to see what is working and what is not.
At that time I felt drawn to the chunky yellow stripes in the one block, so I planned two new blocks with similar stripes.
Both those blocks are now sewn, though I did swap the stripes in the frog block for something else. Can you spot the two new blocks here?
Before Cyprus I cut another batch of fabrics, since this portable hand sewing is ideal for hours in the train, plane or airport.
I started with the unicorn print and chose fabrics to coordinate. Luckily the abandoned blue/green stripes from earlier this year work well with this group! In each block I include a solid-colored Tilda Chambray basic to give the eye a place to rest. Other than that my fabrics are pretty random, with a focus on multi color prints and picture-motifs for the large hexagon at center.
Elora helped me keep track of my shapes during the cutting process and arrange them to preview the block. Isn’t it going to be lovely? Maybe I’ll sit down and work on this today.
