Making the dresden flowers for my Dilly Dilly quilt was like swimming upstream. It seemed to take forever. It’s not that the blocks were so much more time-consuming, compared to your average patchwork, but my attention was too scattered to build good momentum in the last weeks.
Finally I reached the point where I had sewed all the full dresden flowers. There are two sizes, both of which are part of the Tapestry Garden block-of-the-month quilt. The larger dresden is our Daisy block and the smaller dresden is part of the Waterlily block. Cute, eh?
Next up are the quarter dresden blocks originally designed for my Drummer Boy Dresdens quilt pattern. I had saved these for last with the thought to sew scrappy petals, using up all the random purples from my scrap drawer.
Yay! These pointed dresden blades are so much faster to sew than the rounded variety. It’s fun how chain-piecing them creates a temporary little garland!
All in one sitting, I found myself pressing and joining little 5-petal sets for the Drummer Boy Dresdens quarter flower blocks.
And as soon as I popped the petal sets up onto my design wall, I felt that satisfied jolt of recognition. Yes, this is the quilt I wanted to make! It’s happening, yay.
Oh my goodness, these quarter dresden blocks! Aren’t they perfectly delightful? I love, love, love sewing them every. single. time.
